Another hair one... Heeeeelp please!

OK- couldn't afford the mad hairdresser prices to lighten my dyed black/dark brown hair... I want ultimately to be dirty blonde /light brown...

Today I've used one of the hair dye stripping kits , and as the net predicted, so I expected, results are patchy with the new hair roots has gone white...

Most of the mid-length is strawberry blond/well, orange, with the ends, darkish brown (where the hair has had the most dye over the last year!).

I knew this would be a tricksy process, and I need to put a dye over the top towards my desired colour.... But no idea what sort /make of colour /tone would be best to use?

So ideas please?? I'm intending creeping out under cover of hoody tomorrow

I've tried it before but find bleaching the hell out of it works a little better with no more damage than colour remover. I would wash it through very well with purple shampoo, it takes the orange away a little. Get some of the very best deep conditioner you can afford and slather it on, wrap a plastic bag over it for 20 mins to do it's thing. If you want a natural colour I'd get one 2 or more shades lighter than you actually want it to be. When you've done that to your hair it'll suck up loads more colour than it would otherwise so dye will take quicker and look darker. Good luck.

I'd try what Crow has advised re using bleach, but don't bleach the roots so it's more or less one colour.

I've dyed my hair where it goes the orange colour (it didn't lift enough with a blonde hair dye). I put an ash blonde dye over the top, and it looked ok.

Also if you get your hair done by trainees studying hairdressing at your local college, it's much cheaper than paying salon prices. It might be something to bear in mind in future.

Its because the strippers are usually seaighned for you to put a colour over the top. It simply lifts colour out, it doesn't leave you with a natural colour.
You could try bleaching it, but you may still be left with the ginger.

I'd find a college with trainees so they can sort this for you, as it can take a few processes for it too lift to how you want it.
It may not even lift in one go, you may have to wait a while in between if you've had dyed black hair.
I wouldn't try doing this yourself, you may simply end up still with ginger and dark patches but broken hair.

This is why I paid a hairdresser a mahoosive amount of money to make my hair it's natural blonde colour again. I was too terrified to see what would happen if I tried myself.

At the time it was a month's rent.

Can't you find some trainees or juniors who want to practise on you?

Make sure the dye you buy has 'ash' in it, so dark ash blond, definitely not warm honey blond or anything along those lines, or you will just enhance the orange!
