Aibu on this road?

Please please excuse my terrible diagram!! I am not artistic in the slightest but wanted to give an idea. So the road I live on is 1. Terrible for parking spaces and 2. Only wide enough for one car to drive down due to cars being parked either side of the road. This isn't a huge problem because during the day there are usually a few gaps to pull into to let other cars pass..there are a few small roads coming off this long road but the particular part I was driving down happens to be around 50 houses. General consensus is that the person who has already driven most of the road will not have to reverse.
So anyway... this morning I was driving down the road and a car started coming towards me, there was a small gap on the right hand side of the road (so technically on his side of the road) I assumed he would pull into it (or he could reverse about 5 car lengths to let me pass) but instead he started getting angry at me and gesturing to get into the gap, I wouldn't have minded if he didn't get so angry..I did go in the gap but aibu in thinking it was him that should have gone in the gap? Since it was his side of the road?

He should have gone in the gap

Can't see the diagram. Were you already out and passing the parked traffic or was your side of the road clear when he started his manoeuvre?

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 23/05/2017 13:24

He should've pulled in/waited for you to clear the parked cars.

Yukbuck · 23/05/2017 13:24

Sorry hellhasno I have uploaded the diagram now. I don't know what you mean by manoeuver. The road was clear as I was driving down (there is a slight bend towards the end) and that's where he came from but like I say, that's only about 5 car lengths away from a road coming off.

That's a funky diagram! He should have gone in the gap.

Chloe84 · 23/05/2017 13:39

That's happened to me but I refused to get in the gap as it was on his side. He came out the car calling me a fucking bad driver. I rolled down the window and told him he was the fucking bad driver.

Is it a hill? If so I think the person driving uphill has priority. Not sure what that is and that being said, from a practical perspective he should have waited and let you passed.

Socksey · 23/05/2017 14:04

He should have gone in... gap was on his side.

My favourite recently was, when in queue coming up to a junction, I left a gap for drivers coming the other way as cars were parked on their side very close to a junction. The driver behind me roared up and tried to overtake me as cars were coming the other way (through the gap I had left) and blocked the whole road and she had to reverse! She had a good view (land rover) so must have seen what was happening. Similar happened again today when someone was halfway off their drive into the road so I stopped for them and someone came roaring up trying to go round. I'm just trying to be a considerate driver!

Syc4moreTrees · 23/05/2017 14:05

i think if he's come round a corner onto the road he shouldn't reverse as that would be dangerous, as you're both in the middle of the road the gap is as much on one side as the other. I would have pulled into the gap, but equally he should chill out and not get angry about stupid things.

Don't sweat the small stuff OP.

Yukbuck · 23/05/2017 14:05

It wasn't a hill, just a flat road.
Thanks all! I get a bit nervous with other drivers sometimes and was worried I was in the wrong.

The gap was on his side, he should of gone in the gap.
