What should A have done?

What should car A have done?

  1. Brake, slow down and pull in behind car C
  1. Continue to gather speed and continue in the same lane

Any other option?

What should A have done?

nice diagram but what actually happened ?

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 22/05/2017 10:55

Did A get there from the slip road?

franklyshankly · 22/05/2017 10:56

I would say gather speed in same lane. It would surely be dangerous to slow down on a fast paced road- you couldn't be sure what is behind you

Supersoaryflappypigeon · 22/05/2017 10:57

Gather speed (within the limit) and continue.

IAmTheWorwax · 22/05/2017 10:58

I would think it was safer to gather speed than slow right down with a car so close behind you.
Really though the lorry and C should have moved over

AnthonyPandy · 22/05/2017 10:59

Nothing really as he/she is past the hazard of cars joining the road. I think.

Finola1step · 22/05/2017 10:59

What is the green squiggle fir?

cookielove · 22/05/2017 10:59

Love the diagram, I presume the crossed out green bit was the original car A?

Just carry on driving as it's not blocking car B entrance onto the road. I presume car A was already undertaking the lorry (tut tut) if I were in that position I would just speed up to get infront of the lorry incase he wanted to move over.

Jupitar · 22/05/2017 11:01

You either put your foot down and get in front of the lorry or hold back and let the lorry pull in front of you. The lorry has moved into the middle land to allow car a to enter the motorway, and it'll need to move back to lane 1 soon, so get the hell out of its way before you disappear on the side view mirror

rightwhine · 22/05/2017 11:01

I guess you were car A and you braked to pull in behind car C and then
B hit you?

Personally If I was Car A I would speed up.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 22/05/2017 11:01

Car A should have read the signs and known there was a slip road coming up and therefore moved into the next lane earlier! Pisses me right off when those in the slow lane force me to slow down before getting on the motorway!

pipsqueak25 · 22/05/2017 11:01

sorry i'm being dim but i don't get this at all without more info, which car were you driving / in and was there an accident or is it an excuse to get a diagram on mn ? Grin

notomatoes · 22/05/2017 11:03

Cars entering the road should match the speed of the road surely? So A should not undertake the lorry and B should also be aware of speed on the road it is joining and act accordingly.

But if I were A I'd probably speed up a bit to get past the lorry if I had B coming up fast behind me.

IAmTheWorwax · 22/05/2017 11:04

Oh I think I've read it wrong. Shit at diagrams

TheNaze73 · 22/05/2017 11:05

Car A should have speeded up

MTBMummy · 22/05/2017 11:05

Agree with those above, gather speed and stay in lane.

Wondering if OP was car B and hit A because it braked to drop behind C

hello op ?

LouBlue1507 · 22/05/2017 11:10

I was car A and I sped up to get ahead of the lorry, the however decided to start pull into my lane with me next to it! I thought it was safer to speed up than risk braking as I was already nearly at 70mph.

LouBlue1507 · 22/05/2017 11:11

Yes I had joined off the slip road and the roads were empty.

rizlett · 22/05/2017 11:16

The lorry may not have noticed you due to its blind spot by then - though he should have been more aware.

I would have sped up because you can go a lot faster than the lorry but then you need to be aware of cars pulling in in front of the lorry. Iyswim.

I think you are meant to go behind the lorry and car but frankly that's just redicioulous and causes problems for car B.

1bighappyfamily · 22/05/2017 11:17

Because of where you were, the lorry couldn't see you I should imagine, especially if it was a right hand drive one. But was an idiot as presumably would have seen you merge on.

If it was a big articulated lorry travelling at the same speed as you then presumably speeding up was the right thing to do as if you'd slowed it could have gone into you and if you slammed on the anchors, b would have crashed into you.

Horrible thing to have happened.....hope your pulse is back to normal!

rightwhine · 22/05/2017 11:19

Did he actually hit you?

LouBlue1507 · 22/05/2017 11:25

No luckily he didn't hit me, but it did shit myself, I have a very small car and would have been killed if I'd of been hit Shock

He honked his horn, repeatly flashed his lights and there some lovely gestures at me which made me think IIWBU

OP posts:
rightwhine · 22/05/2017 11:28

Don't worry about it. Perhaps he thought you had undertaken and didn't realise you'd just joined, in which case he should pay more attention to the road.
