To call in sick, not sure what this is

Yesterday I woke up with extremely painful armpits, so painful I couldn't really move them away from my side. Spent the day not doing a whole lot as while I felt ok apart from the armpits, it was very painful.

Had a bad night as don't usually sleep with arms clamped to side so every time I moved I woke up.

Armpits still very painful, got a sore throats and achy limbs.
I work in a very physical job and am thinking of calling in sick but I'm the same vein the sore throats is not that bad it's just the aches and the bloody arms which I still can't move.

Anyone know what this is?!

You hand glands in your armpits - they're called lymph nodes. If you are unwell they can swell like the glands in yoir neck. As mothers would say - "your glands are up"

mumonashoestring · 22/05/2017 07:04

They're all points where you have lymph nodes that flare up to produce infection-fighting cells when you're ill. If you have a feel under your jaw or armpits you'll probably be able to feel them. Definitely sounds like a sick day is in order!

*have, not hand

picklemepopcorn · 22/05/2017 07:24

I think the technical employment term for it would be 'feeling fluey, I ache all over, must have picked up a bug'.

FaithAgain · 22/05/2017 07:26

Sounds like a virus, I think it's wise to take pain relief, stay in bed and take the day off.

tallulahturtle · 22/05/2017 07:27

Trouble is the worst bit of this is the underarms and not whatever it is my body is fighting off (sore throat, aches and slight chills) So if I do phone in sick i will feel guilty but I will see how I feel in the next hour as I get up and about. Hate phoning in sick as always has a negative impact when we are one down.

Swollen glands, yep. You're coming down with something. Rest and fluids.

PennyDreadfull · 22/05/2017 07:30

Sod it, call in sick. I would.
If your job is very active and you can't move your arms without a lot of pain, there's something wrong and you need to be at home recovering.

Mumps?

tallulahturtle · 22/05/2017 08:18

Done, will still feel bad about it as I always do when I'm ill. Even last time when I had a stomach bug and couldn't trust a fart, I still felt bad.

Couldn't trust a fart 😂 I did once when ill, luckily I was just in my front garden, it was a case of a swift trip to the shower room! Lol. Great days!

Fluffyears · 22/05/2017 08:32

Never trust a fart with a stomach bug....bitter experience!

tallulahturtle · 22/05/2017 08:40

Hehe, even in the days after when I was back to eating and thought all was well. Still had a few dodgy moments 😀
