AIBU..to feel a bit downhearted and deflated?

We are off on holiday today, for two weeks to Turkey...weather forecast is for considerable rain. (I mean a LOT) taking up 8 days of the 14. I am feeling slightly downhearted and deflated as my dreams of just relaxing round the pool are diminishing each time I check the
forecast... AIBU? Or would you feel a bit low too?

I'd feel a bit deflated too, it does affect what you can do, not fun sitting in the bar/room day after day. On honeymoon a day we had to explore the mountains was raining so missed all the scenery, i was a bit gutted.

Forecast might be exaggerated?

I mean, when do they ever get our forecasts in UK right?

Yeah, I'd feel a bit gutted, then I'd feel guilty about being gutted.

Maybe stop checking the forecast? It might be a lot nicer than it predicts. Or the heavy rain might only be for short bursts making the rest of the time pleasant?

We went to Iceland once in September. Wasn't expecting great weather then - it was fantastic, save for a couple of days in the fortnight.

A tour guide told us it had been a very wet summer and we got lucky .

You just never know.

Are you looking up the exact area you are going to? Or Turkey in general?

I just checked for today. It says "precipitation zero"?

I think you should ignore the forecast and take every day as it comes. It might change before you go!

There must be other stuff you can do if the weather is bad? Spa, water sports, learn to dive, eat lovely food, discover the cocktail menu, read plenty. Hope you have a fab time.

I should stop checking, I may well be working myself into a tizzy of despair. Thing is, the weather has been amazing (30c) until our first full day there. Which seems entirely unfair to me. I don't mind not getting a tan, but I do mind not able to use pool/beach etc, as it's what I am there for. DH is stoic (it's in his blood!) which is quite infuriating!

May isn't known to be a bad month in Turkey. I nearly died with the heat when I went in May many years ago. It will likely not be as bad as you think OP. Stop checking reports and get excited. I'd rather have rain abroad than rain here any day. Yes, stoicism can be annoying!

It might end up just being like one rain shower and the rest of the day nice and hot?

Although once I had a cheap 2 week holiday to Greece in June... staying in really basic accommodation. It was really cold and rainy! I ended up coming home after 1 week because if I was going to lie on a bed and read I decided I might as week do it at home on my own comfy bed with central heating.

When we went to Turkey (2015), we had an hour or so of very heavy rain a few mornings, which then cleared up almost instantly. By about 30 minutes after the rain had stopped, everybody was back outside on sunbeds lying in the brilliant sunshine .

Actually, it was quite nice because it took a bit of the humidity out of the air for a while. Temperatures still reached somewhere between 30 & 40 degrees each day.

We went in April - it did rain now and then, but majority was sunshine & heat, and the rain was mostly just quick bursts then lively again later. Don't stress - it'll probably be absolutely fine.

I never thought it got cold in Turkey until we were on a flight there in December a few years ago (connecting flight via Istanbul) and it was snowing so badly that we were delayed 7 hours at Heathrow and a further 8 hours in Istanbul! Never going back to Turkey ever again.

Apparently, beyond three days, forecasts are just guess work.

Definitely stop checking! & when you get there just go with the flow. There are always cocktails! We're on holiday and forecast was dreadful but have had about an hours rain then glorious sunshine! They do get it wrong.

You might get some of that awesome Mediterranean weather where there's a thunderstorm and torrential rain at about 5pm every day, and it's sunny otherwise. It keeps the temperature down to bearable, freshens the air and gives you something to watch from your balcony

This happened to us in 2015 when we went to Cornwall. Blazing hot sunshine in the weeks leading up to our holiday then we drove down there (six hour drive from our home) in the rain and it barely stopped all week. I think we had one nice day where we got to the beach and one cloudy but dry day when we did some touristy things but other than that it rained. It was miserable. We ended up coming home a day early as we were all so fed up.

Hopefully it won't be as bad as you are anticipating and you get some nice weather.

I went to Lisbon in October , the weather forecast was rain every day, BUT it only rained at night and was lovely in the day, every day!

Happened to me years ago. Was a long haul destination and it was over Xmas and New Year. Rained for 11 days out of 24th and it was fucking depressing.

Didn't help we were somewhere quite untouristy so very little to do outside of the hotel and grounds (which was sold as 5 bit not even 4 in reality). All the trips we wanted to do - helicopter over one of the great waterfalls, piranha fishing, sea plane to a few neighbouring islands, boat trips - all fucking cancelled due to weather.

Was awful. I drank my body weight in vodka. Seriously we used to get up, see more torrential rain and have a beer at 10am (a few early beers to help waste a few hours in the afternoon sleeping).

It was about 15 years ago so no smart phones. Read my books in the first 4 days.

I still feel hard done by now

(And yes weather was completely unseasonal, worst December / Jan they'd had in 60 years!!)

It's unlikely to rain much between May and October in Turkish resorts.

Oh I'm sorry OP. I would stop looking and just hope it's not as bad as predicated.
