to ask my neighbour why in the hell they are constantly drying black bin bags

My next door neighbours constantly have black bin bags on their washing line. Not in their main garden but in the side return, right next to our house. Our kitchens look into the other but we have a fence up which just about blocks us from seeing each other. However day and night for the past 2-3 months they have had black bin bags on their washing line. I wouldn't give a crap about what people have on their washing line ordinarily but it makes a right din, especially in the wind we have had recently. DS13's bedroom is at that end of the house and says he can hear them rustling really loudly all night long (which I know sounds ridiculous but they must have 4-5 bin bags rustling away at any one time).
These bin bags keep blowing up in the air too and our dogs are losing the plot about it, they don't usually bark much but 15ft glossy black apparitions springing up is sending them mad.

Every morning, when I'm in the office (we have an office annex in the garden so can see directly up their garden without effort) I can see her taking bags off the line and replacing them with new bags.

Come on, what am I missing here? Have a missed a bizarre trend? They are bizarre people as it is but I can't figure out wtf is going on here.

Loving this thread! I'm desperate to know what they are up to.

I don't think it's incontinence as there are other much easier and better options than bin bags.

I think it's a cannabis farm. The time scale makes sense. Is there a window that always has the curtains closed?

WOW!!
not to the rubber craving, but the mask!!! that's brilliant. well done for your DH for doing it and not running for the hills...

MadameSzyszkoBohush · 17/05/2017 10:30

I'm sure you could find some Chanel logo-emblazoned bin bags on the Facebook selling threads? Or you could commission someone to make some for you with glitter and diamantés?

NurseButtercup · 17/05/2017 12:00

Thank you thank you for this post! Especially the detailed & descriptive update including the bit about "leapt of the chair....nearly breaking my neck"...

The image I've conjured up is priceless...

You've made my day...

You've restored my faith that it's normal to be inquisitive and have the ability to make entertainment from the silly stuff GrinGrin

Now I'm returning to essay writing and reading journal articles [yawn]

Floofycat, that made me laugh out loud. Have you still got the ball mask? If so, photo please. Maybe the teen wears them at home as only got school uniform??

Yvetteballs · 17/05/2017 13:41

Any police on here who could tell us the likelihood of a link to cannabis farm?

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 17/05/2017 15:44

Ball mask is both hysterical and terrifying at the same time Shock

FloofyCat · 17/05/2017 16:19

I'm thinking perhaps I have given the wrong impression of the ball mask Blush it was just a punctured basketball really squashed into the shape of my lower face. It wasn't anything like this kind of mask which I think you guys are all imagining Grin

Anyway, back on subject, yy to cannabis farm. Wait until it snows and the snow melts on their roof it's definitely a weed factory. Unless anyone knows another detection technique less dependent on the seasons...

to ask my neighbour why in the hell they are constantly drying black bin bags
FloofyCat · 17/05/2017 16:21

Although I did find this Shock pic which I was tempted to pass off as me wearing my mask and DH in a matching one, just for the laughs Grin

MN is a very educational place - but those zips on the eyes might give me nightmares!

Sorry for derailing your thread with gimp masks Blush

AutumnalLeaves38 · 17/05/2017 17:34

Floofy,

Well, that just made for an interesting conversation with someone nosily peering over my shoulder, as I was scrolling down thread updates... Blush Grin

AutumnalLeaves38 · 17/05/2017 18:29

Actually, I feel a bit guilty now for lightheartedly linking the handy-guide-to-spotting-your-friendly-neighbourhood-cannabis-growers:

after all, desperate people are sometimes driven to grow their own, when all other (legal) means of pain relief have failed.

But then I feel a lot less guilty, remembering they've been anything but friendly neighbours to everyone...bloody rude and thoughtless, actually.

Mystery continues, eh?

This article gives you common signs that neighbours are growing cannabis in their house.

JDelanysCleanHorse · 17/05/2017 18:42

We had neighbours grow cannabis.

Could smell it but couldn't figure out which side it was (row of terraced houses).

They were very nice but couldn't speak English (Asian-Vietnamese or similar).

They were always sending traditional home made food round to us-it was delicious.

CarbonMint · 17/05/2017 18:59

FloofyCat
At one point DH bought a rubber basketball and punctured it and moulded it to fit my face like a mask so I could breathe it all in, but I only did this in the privacy of my own home...

If it's a cannabis farm there'll be lots of pigeons on the roof.

Go look, OP.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 17/05/2017 19:34

can you sneak out there, bring them in and shrink them....like we all used to do in the 70s with crisp packets...a super hot air dryer should help.

then peg them back out with teeeeeny tiny pegs.

was it shrinkles? shrinkies? crimples?

TheNiffler · 17/05/2017 20:07

I want to know why pigeons sit on the roofs of cannabis farm houses.

TheNiffler · 17/05/2017 20:08

Shrinkie dinks

WankersHacksandThieves · 17/05/2017 20:08

I want to know why pigeons sit on the roofs of cannabis farm houses.

The heat I expect - unless pigeons are closet stoners.... :o

VioletBow · 17/05/2017 20:09

I'm presuming pigeons sit on the roofs due to them being warmer?
Remembering this article I saw a while back

to ask my neighbour why in the hell they are constantly drying black bin bags
SmileEachDay · 17/05/2017 20:35

Yep, it's about keeping their little pigeon toes toastie.

TheNiffler · 17/05/2017 20:43

That photo!

Aww sweet little cozy pigeon toesies

SmileEachDay · 17/05/2017 20:45

Also, police helicopters can find weed farms in the winter because the snow on the roof melts.

Although it also does if your insulation is shit...

AutumnalLeaves38 · 17/05/2017 20:55

Wankers,

"...unless pigeons are closet stoners." Grin

We '70s/'80s kids always had our suspicions (see pigeons' rolling eyes in above clip).

luckylorca · 17/05/2017 21:02

Maybe it's a knocking shop or swingers house and they use bin liners to er.. protect the furniture after each 'event'? (Yuk!!)
