Taking 5th passenger in boot of car!

I need help quickly.

I was supposed to be running DH and 3 friends somewhere tonight but, at the last minute, a 4th friend has joined them and DH still thinks it's ok for me to run them... with one in the boot of estate car! It's a 25/30min drive.

I am not happy. I have read that it invalidates your insurance and it's not bloody safe! They could get a train (20 mins) then get a 5min taxi to the venue. But DH thinks this is a massive pain in that arse. And they need to get a taxi back (approx £40 between 5 of them).

It's a festival-type event so there is likely to be a police presence all around.

I wouldn't do it. Not a chance. It's your licence that will be affected not his. Even without that, the fact you don't want to, and he is pressuring you to do his bidding is off.

Tell your DH if he is that bothered he can take the car and drive his 4 mates himself. Then there's legally space for everyone.

Surely if you were pulled you would end up with a fine or points on your licence?

Get one of the other parents to take some of the children so that everyone has a seat and a seatbelt. It's not worth the risk if something goes wrong!

I thought this was illegal but I might be wrong. I thought you could only carry as many passengers as there are seatbelts.

I wouldn't want to drive them either. Can DH not drive them all himself? (Sorry if I am asking an obvious question.)

If you're driving then it's your rules (and obviously the law of the land), and you get to decide if you're going to take the extra person. If DH and the others aren't happy then they can all get the train with the extra one.
