Excluding me by speaking in their native tongue

AIBU: My lodger and her BF joined me at the dining table to have their meal. This is the first time in 8 months she has done this, possibly this time because he was here. They spoke in their native tongue for the entire time and I felt very uncomfortable. It is a very small table and we were in close proximity. I have always been friendly, her not so much and cold. AIBU in feeling this was very rude?

Does her BF speak good English? If not then it might have been easier for him to talk in their native tongue.

Still rude if she didn't include you occasionally by speaking English.

Were you eating dinner together, or were you just using the kitchen at the same time? If the former, yes they were very rude, if the latter then maybe it would have been nice if they had chatted to you while they ate, but they maybe consider what you are doing as nothing to do with them?

I sat at a table at school with two Chinese girls and they used to do this constantly. It's so isolating and makes you paranoid - even if they don't set out to exclude you or to be nasty, it's still rude. Yanbu.

It's really rude. When a friend and I were doing a PGCE placement in a French school, we always spoke to each other in French when others were there.
One teacher actually laughed at us "listen to the petite anglaises talking to each other in French"
The head teacher over heard her and actually snapped at her to say she was impressed with our manners...

I was once out with 4 people all speaking Spanish and I didn't. At one point it became obvious they were having a laugh at my expense. Luckily the only phrase I knew that was of any use was 'kiss my ass'. They asked if I understood Spanish, I shrugged and they spoke English for the rest of the evening

My ex in laws used to do this to me all the time. Incredibly rude!!
