AIBU - Dog smell

Hi all. We are looking at buying a house that needs some work done to it however there is a VERY bad doggy smell. (We have a dog so we do like them)

We would remove all of the carpets and curtains but I just wondered if anyone had any experience of buying a house with a doggy smell?

AIBU to worry it could be in the walls too???

We moved into a house with a doggy smell (and I'm not a dog lover!) but removing the carpets and cleaning the skirmish g boards etc got rid of it.

Can you mention the fact that due to the smell all of the carpets etc will have to be replaced along with a professional steam clean? Maybe say you want that taken into consideration and a bit of money knocked off.

Thank you both for your replies - it's good to hear the smell should go. We are planning to offer below the asking price as the whole house is tired and needs a good spruce up!

Sounds like a good plan! Usually it will go if you chuck the carpetsand give a really good deep clean or steam clean (its worth paying for it). However if its a dog 'pee' smell it might be harder to get rid off.

Oh, forgot to add. Don't use your own hoover - we have a hoover and two dogs. Now the hoover stinks of dog and we have to replace it now and then (they're big shedders) just because the hoover makes the house smell.

We had this. It was in the carpet. It disappeared when we skipped it.
