Superdrug own brand Pregancy Tests should be recalled from sale

I have been TTC for years, tried different things last month so when my period was late I bought a pregnancy test, I was in Superdrug and chose their own brand one only because it has pink lines, I read on here that the blue lines are easier to misread and that pink was better..

Anyhow I took the test, followed the instructions perfectly and got 2 pink lines, a positive result, to say that I was delighted was an understatement. I checked my dates and it meant that I would be 4 weeks.

However.... I had a niggling doubt, as we sometimes do so I went to Boots and bought more pregnancy tests, twin pack got a negative results, today I bought 2 more, this time an expensive brand and again negative.

When testing using these type of pregnancy tests the results are meant to be 99% accurate, so much so that the GP surgery won't normally doubt the result or retest but will refer for a 12 week scan (in normal circumstances obviously).

If I hadn't of retested I would have spent the next 8 weeks thinking that I was pregnant.

So I go to the Superdrug website, read the reviews and it seems that these tests give false positive results, Superdrug's response is to offer a refund and they are still on the shelves being sold to people like me!

AIBU to think that Superdrug should take this more seriously and recall the product while they investigate?

Yes it could be a chemical pregnancy but I tested straight away with another product, my hormones wouldn't disappear within a few minutes would they? Plus the other other reviews too?

Feeona - although everyone is recommending the cheap internet ones, I have never found them as effective for first response.

Tesco own brand have been very good tho.

The old Superdrug Early tests were great but the new ones are terrible. I've peed on every stick type going hundreds of times over the years and these are the only ones ever that I've had false positives on. Not even an evap, a full on pink line. YANBU OP, sorry you've had to go through that x

Sorry you had that experience using one brands product vs another brand.
Your post will certainly lead to negative reviews by those unhappy with the faulty tests.

As pp said Make sure of a repeat blood test at doctors.

feeona Used Poundland tests when found I was expecting both my DC, cheap and accurate! I have tried pricey other brands previously but in Poundland I trust!

Thank you for flagging this up, DuchessK. I'm a fellow infertile and the last time I had reason to take a test (outside of the ones the IVF clinic make you do even though you know it's failed) was just under 4 years ago (how depressing to type that) and back then Superdrug was the most reliable (and sensitive) in that price range so if by some miracle I had reason to believe I might be pregnant again I would have probably used them. So thank you for saving me from the horrors of a false positive, sorry you had to go through that. I obviously don't hang round the conception or pregnancy boards as I'm uber-infertile so would never have known otherwise! Hope you get your real BFP soon.

So sorry you've had this experience. Fwiw id second the advice of pps, the mega cheap ones from Amazon are brilliant, cost pennies and last ages. Never had a problem with them yet, and results are always very clear (both positive and negative). I've even used them a few days before I was due and they were accurate then too
