To dread listening to voicemail messages?

Penhacked · 08/05/2017 20:12

There is a particular colleague who sends me long rambling WhatsApp voicemail messages. It is basically a monologue of her thoughts for as long as she can come up with things to say. This message is four minutes long, the last was 8. AIBU to dread it and ask her to not leave them in future? I hate voicemail in general and always used to turn it off on my home phone but don't think you can do it in WhatsApp

So just don't listen to them then. If it keeps appearing in your notifications, listen to one second of it and then stop it so it's classified as 'listened' to.

Uhohmummy · 08/05/2017 20:18

I'm like this! I have currently 10 unlistened to voicemail messages on my phone, some dating from December! Don't know why I hate them so much.

QueenMortificado · 08/05/2017 20:18

I am always playing on my phone but when it actually rings it takes every ounce of my being to answer it. So I usually don't.

Then, the inevitable long rambling voicemails get deleted after they have passed 3 seconds (the min you can listen to them on my phone). I know the final outcome will be "so call me back" then you'll have exactly the same conversation anyway. Voicemails are literally NEVER important.

I have a friend who leaves them while she is out shopping etc, so they'll often have "yes please..... hang on one second.... yeah, a white coffee please? What cup size.... ohhhh, what's the price difference? Ok I'll have that. Yep. Yep. Ok thanks. Hang on.... Hang on, I'm still here, just looking for my card.... ok thanks. Sorry I'm back! Just ordering a coffee.... so what I was saying is...."

I ended up telling her to just leave me a missed call and I'll return her call when I have a second. No voicemails needed :)

QueenMortificado · 08/05/2017 20:19

I currently have 55 unlistened to voicemails Grin

Eminado · 08/05/2017 20:21

I hate vmail too and now my phone seems to know this as it doesn't notify me anymore Grin

CatCircle · 08/05/2017 20:21

I hate voicemails too! Why is that?
Just send me a frickin text.

Penhacked · 08/05/2017 20:22

I saw it and my heart just sunk. I just like nice bullet pointed texts or emails. No human interaction please. Or if we really must, then a brief phone call or Skype. But seeing a four minute message is like getting an unexpected bill through the post.

I dislike it especially if I miss an incoming call by a whisker - because it then takes much longer to deal with it! Wait for them to leave a message, then play it back, then hope they haven't started calling someone else.

Fiduciaryfandango · 08/05/2017 20:41

I hate them too!!!

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 08/05/2017 20:48

I've turned off my work voicemail because I hate them so much. My boss doesn't know and will say something when she cottons on. I'll plead ignorance and do nothing until I'm made to. It's been 2 months of silent bliss so far.

And YY to listening to a few seconds then deleting. And tell this person the voice messages don't come through properly for some reason, can she just type the message in future.....

BaffledMummy · 08/05/2017 20:52

Can I join? I'm a vm hater too. It actually makes me stressed and whenbi get to about 10 messages I make DH listen to them all and tell me if I need to know anything Blush
I also have piles of unopened letters. I don't know why I am like this....I have a responsible job and am super organised in everything else!

19lottie82 · 08/05/2017 20:53

Turn off your voicemail service?

CatCircle · 08/05/2017 22:08

Baffled me too with letters. I hate opening them! It's so wierd.

Beckywiththebadhair · 08/05/2017 22:25

I have VM turned off my phone. I used to get so stressed when I got one that I would refuse to listen to it and ignore the VM symbol for three days until it automatically deleted itself. It seemed pointless having it on and I feel so much better without it. I didn't realise that you could do WhatsApp VM. I might block people if they start using that.

Littlecaf · 08/05/2017 22:27

I hate it too. Especially work ones. "Yes I've done that" "no not calling you back, I'll email instead". Hate it.

Princesspinkgirl · 08/05/2017 22:27

I hate voice messages i think to myself bloody text me on messenger! And not on a voice clip either which aggravates meHmm

coconutcats · 08/05/2017 22:28

I hate it so much, fills me with anxiety getting missed calls, let alone seeing they've left a bloody voicemail.

Beerwench · 08/05/2017 22:47

"Fills me with anxiety getting missed calls, let alone seeing they've left a bloody voicemail."

Soooo glad I read this. Thought I was some kind of weirdo! well I might be anyway
Phonecalls, door bell and voicemails have me all of a quiver - I work in a pub and find face to face with anyone in that situation fine, can deal with any number of customers. Put a phone in my hand I'm a wreck!
unless it's surfing the t'interweb

sleephypnosiszzz · 08/05/2017 23:24

the only people who leave me voicemails are my parents, moreso my dad. every single time i start to listen to a message, i'm holding my breath expecting bad news about my very elderly grandparents. luckily so far i can always judge from the tone of the first few words that it's just a "general" message. my sister says she goes through the same emotions when listening to a voicemail from him!

QueenMortificado · 08/05/2017 23:27

Sleepy this happened so much with my parents that if my mum calls now she opens with "it's me, your mother, don't worry, no one is dead"

WicksEnd · 08/05/2017 23:33

My mum always tells me the day, date and time when she leaves a message Grin
I can't not play them , I'm too nosey, I have to listen. Post on the other hand.......

Butterymuffin · 08/05/2017 23:39

I hate getting voicemail too. It's not just you! Keep deleting Wink

Pigface1 · 09/05/2017 16:17

I'm so glad to read this thread - I HATE voicemails but thought I was the only one!!

BorpBorpBorp · 09/05/2017 16:22

Voicemail is the worst. Who uses voicemail? There is literally no need.

goingonabearhunt1 · 09/05/2017 16:25

I hate vms too, don't really like talking on the phone in general tbh. Prefer text, Whatsapp or email if it's for work (obviously face to face preferable but not always possible). My DF is obsessed with the phone though and if I don't call regularly and/or leave a message it sends him into a stress. I panic every time my phone rings.
