To wonder if I should be worried about this?

Disclaimer: I KNOW that the internet/forums are not a substitute for proper medical advice but I'm just curious if anyone else has had anything similar as I couldn't find anything online and it was very weird!

Was sitting down yesterday on the sofa doing some work on the laptop when my left middle finger started feeling..odd, like someone was pressing on the nail really hard. Then my finger started tingling (like pins and needles) and eventually my whole finger went completely numb. The tingling then spread over my whole hand, finger by finger and the whole hand went totally numb too. Lasted about half an hour then faded away and went back to normal?

Aibu to wonder if I should be concerned? It was really strange! Never had anything like that happen before.

Had you just experienced change in temperature? (like coming in from outside into warm house or from shower etc)
Did your fingertips go white?
I have raynauds syndrome and that sounds like a similar set of symptoms?

SharkiraSharkira · 08/05/2017 12:41

No, no temperature change and colour didn't change at all. Looked totally normal. I had been sitting there for quite a while.

My migraines (with aura) start like this

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 08/05/2017 13:25

Had you been using the laptop for a long time? Possibly reduced circulation/ pressure on nerve due to position your hand was in?

The only other thing that springs to mind (and obviously not dr!!)
is carpal tunnel or repetitive strain as you were on laptop?
Could have just been something pinched a bit in a freak one off-maybe positional ?
but if it happens again maybe see GP just to put your mind at ease...

Hmm, very strange.

Thanks for the reassurance!

I'd second carpal tunnel - I have Raynaud's too and generally it's temperature that sets mine off (being outside in the rain or wind) but have found that my fingers and then up to my elbows go numb sometimes, usually when I've been knitting for a while. I spoke to my GP and they said it was likely carpal tunnel or a trapped nerve in my elbow.
