AIBU to think my 9yo DS has Aspergers?

He is a lovely boy but an odd kid. Excels at maths. Crumbles under pressure. Great at sports where he's in his own like tennis. Hates team sports like football. Has anxiety over certain shoes or clothes. Has friends but not great in crowds. Hits his 7yo DB when he gets cross. Hits me too. Has tantrums and shouts like a much younger child. Can't look strangers in the eye. Acts much younger than his age. I'm worrying cos he'll be starting high school in a year and I don't want him to start a new school without me having raised this as an issue. Should I speak to school to see if they're concerned? No- one had mentioned it to me before. Thanks.

You can self refer to a speech language therapist or ask your GP. I think the hitting in particular is worrying.

Could be anything. Get him a referral if you're concerned

First step is speak to the school SENCO and class teacher. Ask to talk it through and see if they think he needs referring. In my experience you get further faster if you have the schools backing and they refer into the system.

You could try this so that if you go to the GP you have something to discuss.
