Driving test

Hiya! I have my driving test this week and I'm beginning to brick it slightly! I did a mock test a few days ago and failed miserably 😭 Instructor says that I am a lovely driver when I want to be but I tend to panic and get flustered. I tend to let nerves get the better of me. I can drive but make silly mistakes! Really need to pass though! Anyone taking their test soon or have any words of encouragement? Thanks! 😊

Thank you! I'm just so relieved - it was getting embarrassing Grin

Positive vibes for your test! You can do it too!

mum19821985 · 02/05/2017 17:55

Thank you! I've always said I'll throw a party when I pass 😂

I have my driving test in about 3 weeks! I am dreading it tbh. I just feel like I will mess it up.

Dustbunnies · 02/05/2017 21:33

I stalled 4 times today! Definitely thought I'd failed it again.

For everyone worried about failing - it doesn't matter because literally the worst thing that can happen is that you'll have to do it again. That's what I told myself anyway, I just became grimly determined to keep going until I passed in the end. Still don't quite believe I've actually done it Grin

My instructor recommended 'rescue remedy', so I immediately brought it thinking what have I got to lose?! I passed my test first time, and I'm not sure if they helped, but equally I can't say for sure that they didn't! I also had the radio playing very quietly in the background, and I helped to relax me a lot. Keep my mind off someone watching my every movement. Good luck OP, fingers crossed you pass Flowers

I passed on my sixth test. It was sort-of my eighth, but two were cancelled because of the weather. I was beginning to think I'd never pass, but I honestly think that driving is one of those things that pretty much anyone can do, it's just that it takes some of us longer to get the knack than it does others.

Good luck to all learners and test-takers.

Two best tips my instructor told me - 'imagine that you're trying to send your examiner to sleep in the car. Steady and smooth'
And maybe this was just for me, but 'it's a speed limit not a target' I was always a bit prone to putting my foot down Grin

Test is tomorrow! Just had a lesson and managed to mount the kurb twice! Oh joy! 😳 Just gonna concentrate and do my best tomorrow 😀

Good luck! Try to put today's mistakes behind you, they're done and dusted, you'll have a clean slate. Fingers crossed for you.

ThorsMistress · 04/05/2017 22:56

Good Luck!

I passed second time. The day of my test I woke up in a bad mood and couldn't be bothered to do it! I very nearly called my instructor to cancel. He turned up 20 minutes late which annoyed me even further and made me even more annoyed that I had to go and take my test.
I went in with the attitude of I'm going to fail so what's the point. It seemed to settle my nerves and made the test a lot calmer! If I can do it than you can!

mum19821985 · 05/05/2017 08:41

Thanks! Instructor is picking me up in half an hour! 😬 Eeeep!

Good Luck mum 👍

I've been learning to drive for (cough) 2 years, although until a couple of weeks ago had a 5 month break, after failing my 2nd test I lost all confidence & kind of gave up.

I recently started lessons again with a new instructor & have my 3rd test in a few weeks. He seems to have more confidence in me than I do! When I think of all the things I have to remember I just think there's no way I'll pass! manoeuvres are my weakest points, I just forget everything & get lost on what to do!

I'm 44 now, I so wish I had done this at 17!

mum19821985 · 05/05/2017 12:43

I failed 🙁 Drove perfectly well, did a perfect manoeuvre but came across traffic lights that were out of order, sun was streaming on them and couldn't tell what light was on, stopped then noticed the out of order sign! Had a serious for stopping! Also rolled back slightly at a junction 😭 Instructor was very nice about it and said apart from that my driving was fine. He said I'm so close to passing so I'll just keep trying! Disappointed as I know I can do it!

Oh you've just been really unlucky, get rebooked as soon as you can.

My sister failed her second over a stupid little thing as well, she passed third with one minor and is a fab driver.

If it makes you feel better my first test my nerves went to shit and I drove around a lolly pop lady Blush

User16357472 · 05/05/2017 13:03

Take some Kalms before to help with the nerves. My instructor was still using his pedals on the morning of my test (worrying) Remember the examiner is also only human and not against you. Try chat with them to ease the nerves, this helped me massively. If you mess up and you know you have, recognise it out loud, it might help, it did for me! Good luck!!

mum19821985 · 06/05/2017 09:32

Aww thanks all! I'm rebooking the test today. I'm looking at yesterday's test as a trial run, it wasn't as bad as I thought and I now know what to expect! Did you all have weekly lessons when you rebooked the test?

Dustbunnies · 06/05/2017 09:53

Just seen this! Well done mum it sounds like you did really well and were just really unlucky. I had a few tests where similar things happen so I understand the frustration!

I found it better to keep having lessons in between my (many) tests - my instructor was amazing at keeping me motivated. Good luck for next time!

Dustbunnies · 06/05/2017 09:53

*happened

PeanutButterBunny · 06/05/2017 11:09

I passed third time. I gave up on my instructor after I failed my first because he was so bloody grumpy. I drove in the evenings with DH and also on weekends to the town. Made sure I practiced maneuvers everytime I went out. I also had notes of my mistakes and tips and tricks for maneuvers so I kept rereading them. Good luck on your next one OP!

ShutTheFridgeUp · 06/05/2017 11:22

Rescue remedy worked really well for my learners when I was an instructor, might be worth a go?
