It's a thought-provoking article, certainly. I think he's wrong though.

The Aftermath is the most interesting aspect of this whole debacle.

cozietoesie · 01/05/2017 21:55

If we get one of course.

saffronwblue · 01/05/2017 22:38

Interesting article Pain. Though I got frustrated when he kept referring us to his book rather than listing the steps of resistance in the interview.

AcrossthePond55 · 01/05/2017 23:42

I'm afraid to get my hopes up.

The amount of absolute shit that's come out of Trump's mouth in the last 72 hours is just unbelievable. When taxed with it, Ann Coulter (she's the speaker that was 'disinvited' from UC Berkeley) told the hosts on The View "He's not a liar, he's a bullshitter". As if there is a difference. As if, even if there was a difference, we'd want a 'bullshitter' as President. She also referred to Trump as an "Emperor God". WTF, is she auditioning for Alex Jones' gig?

This description is not meant as a criticism:

At what point will it be too risky for Trump to converse with anyone outside of his inner circle without a chaperone?

lionheart · 02/05/2017 00:31

And on a more positive note:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 53min

President Andrew Jackson, who died 16 years before the Civil War started, saw it coming and was angry. Would never have let it happen!

Now he's really jumped the shark with this one. I first read it as HE (Trump) would never have let it happen, because that is just the sort of thing he would say, and we all know how amazing his sorting-out skillz are. But no, Andrew Jackson. A slave-owning, murdering unfriendly type of guy. So that's all good!

Perhaps Trump put a few tapps (sic) on Andrew Jackson? Trump is Biff after all.

Keith Olbermann never gives up, the man's a star

Fascinating Politico article lionheart. I think Schneidermann is my new superhero

I am laughing at Trump's latest tweet. Trying to get out of his yuuuuge mistake history wise. Not succeeding.

He sounds like a 12 year old.

How bout a little start-of-the-week quiz? Which one of the many characters that have been dissected on these threads is this, many years ago?

GingerIvy · 02/05/2017 08:20

Is that Pence?

Anyway... Trump's most recent tweet is pathetic, but guaranteed it wasn't written by him.

PerkingFaintly · 02/05/2017 08:34

Ah it's not as bonkers as it sounds, making a distinction between lying and bullshitting.

There was a good description in Dr Ben Goldacre's excellent column about understanding science a few years ago, and it stuck with me.

A liar is someone who knows what the truth is. They are determined to steer you away from it, and they know exactly what it is they are trying to conceal.

A bullshitter doesn't care what the truth is. They say whatever will serve them. They wouldn't recognise the truth if it bit them in the bum: it's simply irrelevant.

I'd say 45 is both.

He's clearly a bullshitter.

But there's also a toddler-like "I didn't wee on the floor mummy" signalling what he's trying to conceal. Mind you, I think his lies become "true" as he speaks, in some part of his brain at least (while another part remains dimly aware of the vulnerable spot). So maybe lying-bullshitting combine at that point.

Roussette · 02/05/2017 08:35

Surely that guarantees it was written by him?!

No idea on the pic, I'm wracking my brains!
