To think that sunscreen is toxic?

Some women proudly say they wear sunscreen every day even in the winter. But isn't it kind of toxic? If you think about it sunscreen is loaded with chemicals. The ingredient list is full of long, unpronounceable names. Why would you wear it on your face all the time? When I put spf on my face when it's really hot and sunny I obviously avoid the eye and mouth area. Yet, within about twenty minutes my eyes start watering, and I feel a toxic chemical taste in my mouth. Which means it seeps through my pores deeper into the skin and some of it gets into the bloodstream, and via the blood vessels they go everywhere. Yuk. Why would you wear a toxic mix on your face every day?

Because it helps protect against skin cancer...

ScarletForYa · 27/04/2017 20:36

What makes you think it gets into the bloodstream?

My eyes water with certain foundations etc, but it doesn't mean they're toxic, just that I'm sensitive to that particular one.

Also, just because chemicals have long names doesn't mean they're poisonous!

putdownyourphone · 27/04/2017 20:36

Yes it is. You can buy non toxic ones. I have always found it odd when people boast about lathering on sun cream all the time (I work in cosmetics and it comes up a lot), I just think - you're letting loads of quite nasty chemicals soak into your skin. I know there are some studies that show that regular application of some of the chemicals actually cause skin cancer, but I darent read them! I just try to use the non toxic stuff for me and D.C.

HermioneJeanGranger · 27/04/2017 20:36

Or it just means you've sweated Confused

I'd rather wear sunscreen than get skin cancer.

TheUpsideDown · 27/04/2017 20:36

I don't consider as toxic as say, skin cancer!

DrudgeJedd · 27/04/2017 20:37

Are you Gywneth Paltrow op? Grin

JustAKitten · 27/04/2017 20:37

OH NO CHEMIKULS

You realise everything is chemicals? Anti science folks are hilarious.

PurpleDaisies · 27/04/2017 20:37

If your friend had died of melanoma before they were 30, you'd understand wearing sun cream.

Sun cream is perfectly safe.

SnoozeTime · 27/04/2017 20:38

Skin Cancer would be a lot more toxic

putdownyourphone · 27/04/2017 20:38

Actually Scarlett most high street suncreams are toxic - they are listed as such

WhooooAmI24601 · 27/04/2017 20:38

Surely if it irritates your eyes and skin just buy a different brand?

I wear sunscreen every day; it's no different to using shower gel or moisturiser or makeup or nail polish; everything around us is made up of chemicals but the toxins are in such minute amounts that it doesn't cause harm.

witchofzog · 27/04/2017 20:38

It's better than skin cancer and premature ageing. Maybe you are just allergic to certain ingredients op

PurpleDaisies · 27/04/2017 20:38

I know there are some studies that show that regular application of some of the chemicals actually cause skin cancer, but I darent read them!

If you did dare to read them you'd discover they're pure quackery.

harderandharder2breathe · 27/04/2017 20:38

What do you think your body is made of if not chemicals?

i bet you're an anti vaxxer

BuckinghamLass · 27/04/2017 20:40

Just because you haven't heard of a long word it doesn't mean it's a toxic chemical.

Just one example, would you avoid cyanocobalamin by that measure? It's b12, but hard to pronounce.

Brokejoke · 27/04/2017 20:42

Which sunscreens are not considered toxic?

Brokejoke · 27/04/2017 20:42

Suncreams*

Some women proudly say they wear sunscreen every day even in the winter. But isn't it kind of toxic?

Let me stop you there.

No.

No, it isn't.

Doublevodkaredbull · 27/04/2017 20:43

You sell Tropic, don't you?

Mirandafart · 27/04/2017 20:43

whispers don't use it then, it's nor compulsory. Although imo the benefits outweigh the risks Smile

Tinkerbec · 27/04/2017 20:45

Poisoning myself tonight with dihydrogen oxide tonight by that thought process.

watchoutformybutt · 27/04/2017 20:46

What particular ingredient worries you? A lot of products have complicated ingredients lists but it's easy to Google and find out what it all refers to in layman's terms.

BoldKitties · 27/04/2017 20:46

The ingredient list is full of long, unpronounceable names. Scary chemicals like dihydrogen monoxide?

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 27/04/2017 20:46

Really? Are you supposed to eat it then?

Working in cosmetics doesn't mean you know anything btw. Skin cancer is worse than any nasty taste you get in your mouth.

But yeah, don't use it then.

Raheesmyboy · 27/04/2017 20:48

Genuine Question here... Do people actually wear sunscreen in the Winter? Ive never heard of that before
