Should i buy this house?

Im looking to move house, ours has been sold for 4 weeks and desperately looking to move, still in a similar area to where we currently are close to the school etc.

We have found a lovely house, literally can move straight in, the only downside as i really am not keen on the neighbours, we know them from old and just dont know if i can live next door to them :-(

If i could pick up the house and move it slightly it would be perfect, just the small point of the neighbour

No I wouldn't. I didn't know our neighbours before but they are not nice people and it does make me want to move sometimes!

I couldn't move next to neighbours I didn't like. We've just moved and at every viewing I asked what the neighbours were like.

Are they actually troublemakers or you just don't like them because you're football fans and they are rugby fans or such?

Thanks, i think i know deep down i dont want to live next to them, but the house has been renovated top to bottom and immaculate, but its so bloomin hard work this house hunting lark

Depends. If they are noisy, drug dealing known criminals then no. If it is just that you don't get on then I'd consider it, again depending on environment. If a small village where everyone talks to each other then no but in a town where most people don't know their neighbours then why not? You don't have to socialise with them.

I think it depends entirely on the reason you don't like the neighbours!

Drug dealers, loud music players, fair enough. Just general gossips, not so much of an issue.

There is no particular reason as such, i knew them growing up as a teenager and the wife is just a bit off ish, they arent nasty or druggies or anything of the sort, i just dont like them as such, and i know i sound a bit precious too lol, maybe i should just get over it, as they havent done anything in particular either

In that case, I would absolutely buy the house.

If that is all it is, that you thought the wife a bit off when you were a teenager then get over it and buy the house before someone else does!

If they're unlikeable in a quiet way and are unlikely to bother you, i'd consider it.

It depends on your reasons for not liking the neighbours, and how much they are likely to impact on your day to day life.

Is it a semi/terraced where you'd be affected by noise? Are they visible going in and out of their house or wouldn't you actually see them? Are they 'nosy neighbour' types who are likely to bother you, or do they keep to themselves so you wouldn't actually see them?

So you've known them for at least ten years and never known them to do anything bad? Buy it!

A couple of thoughts:

You've probably both moved on since teenage years so you might get on better now anyway?

Or - worst case scenario - are they the reason the house is up for sale?

Also, what would make a difference for me, is whether it's a terrace / semi and you'll be sharing a wall? How much physical space is actually between you?

No there is no space at all between the houses, really on top of each other, both have bay windows so could look out of my window into theirs, the driveway is in front of both houses and no space between driveways.

I am so fussy with houses and vetoes so many, i will end up loosing my buyer at this rate, im a nightmare i know it, i might just stick an offer in and hopefully -we- i like it there

The house was empty for years and years and really run down, so an investor/builder has bought it cheap and done it up, so everything is brand spanking new, can just unpack our stuff and not have to do anything to it

Why not have a wee chat with the neighbours? Test the water - ask what the road is like, other neighbours etc. She .Ay surprise you - or she may confirm your doubts! But at the moment it's all in your imagination isn't it?
