Surely the Democrats just need to let Republicans sink on healthcare. Republicans could alienate voters by worsening healthcare for people. Why should Democrats negotiate anything? Republicans' responsibility is towards their voters. They will judge them.

It's not surprising, but provides an opportunity for labour, who have been mumbling about raising taxes for those earning more than £70000. They are now free to pursue this policy and the Tories can't shout about how awful it is to be raising taxes.

So a Miami state Senator, Frank Artiles, thought racist name-calling was OK? The only good part of that story is that he's now resigned.

And the Dept of Justice has picked a fight with the NYPD accusing the city of being "soft on crime". And is now trying to backpedal and say they were talking about the Mayor - while the PD is indignantly touting the city's impressive crime reduction figures... which of course also support the Mayor. Wonder how picking that fight will play with police forces around the US?

And in the UK, following a link from a link, I learn that a barely literate woman has been jailed for 6 months for twice begging for 50p, and didn't even have legal representation because of dog's breakfast that's been made of legal aid. Even the judge was critical of what was going on.
