To hose next doors cat?

New neighbours moved in last month. They're very nice, however the husband informed me upon seeing our cat that their cat was a territorial bully Hmm Personally I think this means he should stay inside but they let him out and now he's over giving it the large and picking on my cat.

He has just now jumped off our shared fence and attacked my cat in front of me. Mine was doing nothing to invite a fight he's a wimp and had to run inside but this cat is twice his size. I'm thinking of hosing him next time. If your cat is a bully would you expect it and be ok with it? I don't want to cause a war with neighbors but this is ridiculous if they're going to let him out

Our neighbour regularly sprayed our cat with water. . Didn't bother me at all. . We were friendly neighbours and it didn't affect that!!

Yes, hose him down. No decent cat owner would object. He needs to learn to avoid your garden.

My cat is a wimp and was recently badly beaten up by a cat who lives close by. I would hose it, it's in your cat's territory.

No, don't hose him. I've known a cat slip off a fence and die instantly with a broken neck. Spray with a water bottle with a nozzle by all means but please don't drench him.

New cat they be sorting out territory. Just be aware they are equally able to spray your cat. Talk to them.

Ok thanks, I'll give them a warning they're pretty nice. I'll start with a squirt gun and if he keeps it up move on the the Super Soaker and then The Hose. Arms war.

Mine wouldn't go anywhere near their house, he's a wimp.

I would never hide a cat off a fence btw!

I would want to be told first. But I would be fine with it. My neighbour squirts mine because they dig in her borders.

My cat isn't a bully but he is territorial. If he was being a bully then I wouldn't have a problem with other owners giving him a good squirting to deter him... would prefer the gradual build up of arms as OP describes though rather than all out soaking from day one!

Good luck OP, you may find it settles down in a few weeks anyway, once they've sorted out sharing territory. Just make sure your cat has escape routes or places to get up high, to minimise its chances of getting cornered. I wouldn't mind if someone gave my cat a bit of a spray (just not hard like PP said about the cat on the fence). I'd rather any of my neighbours did that than ask me to keep my cat inside all that time never gonna happen

Our neighbours cats keep using our small lawn as a toilet. So I spoke to them and said I would be taking as many measures as possible to stop it but would not hurt their cats. I wanted them to be reassured of that. They were fine, they cannot control the cats but totally understood our problem.

We don't have any pets (cannot get a cat as stepson allergic and we work long hours so no dog) and fed up or having to pick crap off our lawn before using/mowing it.

I've let them know and they are totally fine with it. I imagine my cat is going to get pretty smug with me working as a body guard

Leave it for a bit so they can sort out whose territory is whose between the two of them. But then if the aggressive bugger is still fighting with your cat then I'd start hosing him.

I told my neighbour's to turn the hose on my cat if she started trying to use their gardens as a loo so I say go for it!

I've got 3 cats. I bought our neighbour a super soaker to keep them out of his garden, They were slaughtering birds left right and centre.

I have a cat that is very naughty and is definitely capable of bullying / beating up another cat. I would give you consent to hose my cat if I was in this position. Awfully embarrassing as a cat owner to know your darling pet is causing someone else's pet trauma. Yes I would agree to this, but I guess I'm being very understanding about this, sooner or later the bully cat may cause wounds that would need attending to! Hope your neighbours are as understanding as I would be.

I hosed neighbours cat. Great fun! For pooing not bullying.
She used to come in our cat flap and eat my cats food too and even get up the stairs and sleep on the beds. So I put the cat flap on one-way-in and cornered him in a locked room and 'accidentally' tipped a jug of water on her.
It was cartoon moment as said cat tried to climb the walls, head butt the cat flap and do back flips.
Never came back :)

I've watered the neighbours cats with her knowledge and other cats without the owners knowledge if they are in my back garden - I'm doing them a favour because if they hang around too long they will inevitably bump into my dog and then they will be going nowhere .

Phew. You mention it's a boy so not mine. I wouldn't mind you watering my cat at all if it was being a menace.
Let them know if they are pleasant enough what you plan. I'm betting it is unneutered and they don't care less what it gets up to. Sad

I have a very small, dainty, pretty cat with big flowers on her collar. (Yeah yeah, I know. But she likes them! Honest!). And despite her sweet looks she's secretly a horror. Not aggressive or anything but will harass neighbouring dogs by taunting them just out of reach. She also will refuse to budge if a cat or dog comes anywhere near the vicinity of our house. No fighting, just refusal to cower or leave. They're almost always at least twice her size at least and to be honest, I think they just leave because they're wondering WTF?!

If she's taunting a neighbour's dog then I fully support them spraying her with water. Same if she is pooping in their garden (unlikely though as she does it in ours the moment she gets out the door)
