To ask neighbour to remove sat dish?

Just walked out of my door thus morning and noticed a freaking satellite dish attached to the front of our house!! I've come to work to calm down a bit but I can't believe the brass neck! Would I be unreasonable to go around and ask them to remove it and make good the holes?? What if they decline??

Surely that's criminal damage, trespass and all sorts of things! Firstly, though, for good neighbourly relations, I would make sure that it wasn't an error on the part of the dish installers. Your neighbours might be mortified when they find out. Unless they have form for this?

So they have put a dish on your property without your permission ? of course they have to take it off and also they were trespassing when they put it up.

Why would someone attach a sat dish to someone else's house front? Is it well onto your front or just slightly? I've known Sky engineers be a bit shit about noticing boundaries, shall we say.

Of course you're not unreasonable. And it's not ASK them to remove it, but INSIST they remove it. They have no right to do this. But take photos of it first, so that you have evidence in case it comes to it.

I would be tempted to kidnap it and only give it back when they have made good the damage and paid for whoever you had to pay to take it down

I can't believe the check of some people and I don't buy that they don't know where the installer positioned it
How could they not know?

Of course YANBU. I would give them 24 hours to sort and then call the police. Amd they fix holes too.

Chloe That's ridiculous. The neighbour will have to ring Sky, who will send round their installer to remove and then put right any damage (hence taking photos to ensure any bricks are replaced or properly filled in to prevent future cracking which can lead to water ingress). You think that's gonna happen within 24 hours? And you think the Police will be interested at this stage? Of course not. At a later date if the neighbour and Sky refuse to do something, perhaps, but you have to give them reasonable chance to correct the issue first.

The neighbours might not even know yet. Just chill your beans for now, sky will come and sort it out if it is an accident

If it was deliberate because it's shit signal around there it could turn into neighbour war you need to come back and tell us about

Impossible to say without knowing the details. What sort of building do you live in? Are the boundaries obvious? How did you not notice someone drilling into your wall?

Calm your jets, speak to your neighbours, and they'll have to phone the installer (who will have left his number if it was done properly through Sky) to come back out and re-site the dish.

You could ask them to move it or complain to Sky as our neighbours did. Sky put our dish on our neighbours side of our chimney, they contacted Sky and they came out and moved it to our side.

If they decline, then you remove it yourself and leave it to dangle from whatever it holding the cable to the wall on their side of the boundary. It is trespass, and you are entitled to abate it by taking whatever steps may be reasonably necessary.

When did it get put up, and how didn't you notice it?

Surely it's a mistake by the installation company and the neighbours will be just as angry as you are?

Maybe before calling in SWOT go round and ask if there's been a mistake?

We've got the same problem but my dh isn't that bothered so isn't inclined to do something about it. We had work done on our chimney a while back and the roofer said there was a sky dish on our chimney that wasn't ours and the cable was running off about 5 houses down (terraced). I rang sky, they said they couldn't remove it on my request as the request would be linked to my account therefore they'd have to take my dish down but they did tell me who had an active sky account on my row, so I could see which of those didn't have a dish. Anyway I figured it out, asked the guy to remove it and he denied all knowledge! So if we want to take it down we'd have to pay someone to do it. It annoys me so much.

Sorry for the long post! As others have said OP, talk to your neighbour first, see if it's deliberate and take it from there.

I can understand why you are angry. You need to find out if the Sky engineers were at fault or of the neighbours have asked for it to be out there. Is it a flat? Would it be an easy mistake to make or would it be quite obvious which is your home?

Unless you live in flats, then I'd assume your neighbours are unaware. Go round and point out the mistake and tell them they need tor rectify asap and make good any holes.

I know it must be annoying, but at least you could get them to clear your gutters whilst they're up there, and it's only involving the loosening of a few screws. Then they guy who denied all knowledge might suddenly acquire the understanding that his satellite dish should be sited on his property.

I agree with a PP. I would go back and ask again and, if he denies all knowledge, say that you're having it removed. Then just cut the cable.

Go and see them and ask if they have noticed that the installers have fitted the dish onto your house by mistake and see what they say.

Don't cut the cable. That's criminal damage. Just remove the few screws that will be holding it to the wall, and leave the dish and bracket just beyond your boundary, either on the neighbour's roof or dangling off their wall.

Of course there was a thread recently where the poster's scaffolding was interfering with the neighbour's sky reception, and you'd have thought that the neighbour's human rights were being breached by some of the responses, so it's only a matter of time until someone comes on here to tell you you're unreasonable if you don't host your neighbour's satellite dishes for the perfect reception.
