Next door neighbour's music

I have a lovely ndn who is in his late 70's.

He's a really nice man, I've lived here for 11 years with no issues. I chat to him whenever I see him, he sometimes pops round to speak to my parents if they come over (similar age to him), he takes parcels in for me, I do some online shopping for him. All great but.....

He has sometimes over the years played music quite loud in the evenings but this past month or so it's been really frequent and really late. I can hear him now at just after midnight as I'm lying in bed. Dd complained the other night that it kept her awake.

I think he might be depresssed. He's a widower and although he gets out everyday he seems to have few visitors.

Dp, who doesn't live with me but who I have moaned to about this, thinks I need to complain to him. WIBU? I feel guilty and a bit worried it might spoil the good ndn relationship that we have.

As you get on well, and help each other out, I would have thought it would be not too difficult to ask him, when you next see him, if he could put a time limit on the playing of music so loudly - maybe 9pm?
I suspect he has no idea how loud it is in your house and will be mortified and turn it down or not play it at all in the evenings.
