to want to rip DH's head off for his recycling blunder???

I've just spent the best part of half an hour trying to recover 2 cereal boxes from the Cans and Bottles recycling bin.

The reason it's taken me so long is that I'm 5'4,the bin is a full sized wheelie type thing with hardly anything in it ATM. At one point I overstretched and nearly ended up headfirst IN the blardy bin and would have been there til DS2 got home from school at 3.45.

Is it soooooo difficult?? - the bin lid even has a list on it of things that should go in there and any recycling "deviations" are dealt with very strictly by our binmen using the "Shame by stickers" method on the offender's bin.

Am I the only grown up in this house?!

If you did rip his head off, which bin would it go in? General rubbish or compost?

misspiggy · 08/03/2007 12:55

Tricky one that - perhaps I should ask him if he has any preferences!!

shame by stickers. jesus christ. really? how completely fucking nobwank of your LA

sandyballs · 08/03/2007 13:00

Shame by Stickers . Priceless . Can't believe they do that.

yellowvan · 08/03/2007 13:03

hhaa haaaa "NOBWANK",you can get REAL feeling behind that, love it!!

dejags · 08/03/2007 13:03

you are angry about 2 cereal boxes.

wow the world will not come to an end because he didn't recycle two boxes.

sorry but you are being totally unreasonable.

princessmel · 08/03/2007 13:04

What dejags said.

hunkermunker · 08/03/2007 13:04

Why not wait till he's there to get them?

LazyLine · 08/03/2007 13:10

If there wasn't much in it, you could have tipped it on its side to get the boxes out. Or got something to stand on. At least he put the things in the recycling!

Sugarmagnolia · 08/03/2007 13:12

Your DH knows where the recycling bin is?

suedonim · 08/03/2007 14:32

Wasn't there a mumsnetter who's dh got stuck in a wheelie bin and she laughed so much she couldn't get him out?

I do think you could have waited until your dh got home and then made him fish it out.

misspiggy · 08/03/2007 15:56

Okay...perhaps I was being a teensy bit unreasonable....I did ask didn't I?! The recycling is the straw that broke the camel's back in our house ATM.

No-one else seems to see it all piling up on the counter top by the back door except me so, after DH especially leading me into the kitchen last night to show me that he had taken out the recycling I think I just lost all reason when I opened the bin this morning.

((((trails off making a mental note not to start ranting threads when pre-menstrual))))

Sugarmagnolia · 09/03/2007 07:31

Actually, I've changed my mind. If he expected extra brownie points for having done the job then he should bl**dy well have done it right!

edam · 09/03/2007 08:04

Recycling piling up really irritates me. I even bought dh a recycling bin, as he's the one that keeps putting more stuff on the worktop, I take it out. So if your dh wanted praise for doing the job, I think you are entirely reasonable to be pisssed off.

Don't understand why you didn't tip the bin on its side or wait till dh got home, though!

robbosmum · 10/03/2007 07:50

would have put lots of disgusting stuff on it, then asked him to retrieve said items.......... he will never do it again

This thread is hilarious.

Totally justified, op.

Nobwank is brilliant.

Someone link me to the thread with the husband stuck in a wheelie bin, please!

This.

Recycling and being conscious of the planet is important. My lovely obsessive housemate goes a bit over board at times. Shame by stickers is brutal though.

SemperIdem · 08/11/2022 23:41

@Niteewotcha how on earth did you find this 15 year old, barely acknowledged thread?!!

At least 2 LAs do shame by sticker. Ours does too.

Fizzadora · 09/11/2022 00:23

I too am a short arse and have one of those litter picker thingies handy for just such an eventuality. DH still asks me every time what goes in which bin and still gets it wrong sometimes. He does have a brain injury and only one eye working though, so I have to forgive him most things.

iklboo · 09/11/2022 00:23

@Gallathea - maybe change your name to Jesus because this is some resurrection. Fifteen years?!

LeMoo · 09/11/2022 00:29

@iklboo do you mind? outraged lol

You'll notice I didn't resurrect it - but perhaps you missed that, as I missed the date when i joined the thread

CoilBeGone · 09/11/2022 01:01

Haha this reminds me of years ago, got out of my car and had some rubbish in my hand so threw it in my just-been-emptied wheely bin. Unfortunately I also threw my house key in there, so I had no option but to get into the bin to find it.
Just at the moment my NDN walked down their path, to find me in my wheely bin with my head poking out like one of the fucking Flowerpot Men.
I just had to style it out, waved and said hello 👋
