AIBU toilet seat

I know I live on my own and have certain standards but AIBU to expect a grown man visiting me to put the bloody toilet seat down after using the bathroom so I don't have to go up there after he's gone to have to view a dirty toilet bowl with piss all around the porcelain.
Is it not just plain good manners?
I don't leave a trail of panty liners on the floor behind me ff's.

Why was there piss all round the porcelain? Did he miss the pan and not bother to flush?

Of course you should be able to expect him to use the toilet properly, assuming he wasn't a toddler still learning.

Yup missed the pan but who wants to go upstairs and see the toilet seat up? My son doesn't do that!

You're actually supposed to put both the seat and lid down each time. After wiping any accidental mess of course.

I'd be annoyed about the piss

But I couldn't get bent out of shape about a loo seat being left up.

I have a cast iron rule. Seats down, that's both seats. I have five grown men coming to my house to watch some boxing in a couple of weeks. They know the rule, and will abide by it. They are grown ups, why wouldn't they?

I have a sixteen year old that visits a couple of times a month. It's taken a few occasions, but he's learned the rule. It's just about the only rule in my house, but it's implacable.

The adults can drink, smoke pot., their business. But toilet seats GO DOWN.

Yeah, I know, I'm a bit ODD about it.

YANBU OP. Actually I live alone and anyone else being allowed to get within 10 yards of my loo would be extremely honoured. I suspect my cleaner uses it but because I need her more than she needs me, I try to ignore the fact Smile

I see it as being on a par with sleeping in the spare room and leaving the sheets in a disgusting state.

My ds (3) has got the idea that he has to put he seat up because he's a boy (i think that's his logic anyway). But then he sits on the toilet rim! He cant wee standing up yet. I tried to show him how in the garden (yes to wee in the garden) but he couldnt get the idea Grin

DH and I are currently on our DS's (18!) back all the time regarding toilet etiquette. Which basically boils down to

  • going into the loo
- finding the seat up and piss on the edge of the rim and a few quite a few drops on the floor in front of the pan - coming straight back out of the toilet - yelling for DS to come back and clean up after himself

I promise we will have him trained before releasing him into the wild Grin.

There are two males and two females in our house, I don't understand what the toilet seat up or down fuss is all about, if the seat's up when I go in, I put it down, if it's down when DH or DS want to use it, they put it up. Nobody should leave piss about, but why does the seat have to be left down at all times? I just don't get it!

Yabu about the seat being up. Putting it down won't kill you.

I live with three females and leave the seat up after me. They leave the seat down. No one minds.

There is a good reason for the seat to be down when you go into a toilet.

If the seat is up, then the lid must also be up. And that means the toilet was flushed with the lid up. And that means that the room was subjected to toilet plume. Basically, some of the flushing water forms an aerosol, carrying some of the pan contents into the air. Which you can then inhale, or maybe it'll settle on a surface such as the sink or your toothbrush ...

There are too many issues being conflated here so I can't offer an opinion.

Could people please specify what they are referring to when offering their opinions:

  1. Seat left up
  2. Lid left up
  3. Piss on porcelain within the bowl
  4. Piss on porcelain outside the bowl
