size 12-14 (9st 11, 5'2") but just had to size up to an 18 for salopettes (first ski trip). Tried 2 different brands so wasn't an anomaly. Please PLEASE tell me this is a thing. The brands were salmon or something and north face

14 in Boden

Well that is at least 16 in real life.

amberdillyduck · 31/03/2017 19:23

I would say north face are generous. My Northface are size 8 and I am a 10-12

I struggle to find ski jackets due to huge boobs. I'm a 14-16on top but my boobs make closing jackets really difficult. I got a jacket from eider that is a great fit at size 18 (can wear jumpers under it too!). Salopettes are hit or miss but some companies do larger sizes like Trespass but they're not particularly "fashionable".

I gave up with northface who stop mostly at size 16 for flat chested women only. Loads of skiwear shops stop at 16 even if the companies do make larger sizes. I get so pissed off having to explain than I don't want to wear a men's jacket as they do not accommodate curves and hips.

TheProblemOfSusan · 31/03/2017 19:42

Ski stuff is very true to size but other shops aren't - so you think you're a sixteen or whatever and can't find a blasted thing. I have a giant thigh problem and find it really hard. Trespass is pretty good and bit too pricey.

Yes

LockedOutOfMN · 31/03/2017 21:55

I haven't read the whole thread but ski clothes especially ski jackets have to be tight otherwise you can get snow inside them especially if you fall over and then you'll have wet skin/clothes for the rest of the day.

Strigoi · 31/03/2017 21:56

They do. I'm a busty 14-16 and had to go for xxl in jackets.

ZaraW · 01/04/2017 06:32

But clothes sizes don't mean anything now that manufacturers use vanity sizing.

HopefullyDothButterNoParsnips · 01/04/2017 06:39

Honestly I could've written this post a few months ago! Ski clothes come up TINY - I felt like a manatee buying ski clothes. Would recommend Trespass and try and get the salopettes with the braces as that helps them stay up! Good luck!

llangennith · 01/04/2017 07:28

I have to get men's salopettes. And they're usually too longConfused.

HappySeven · 01/04/2017 07:41

I bought mine years ago and can't remember what size they are but have you tried TK Maxx? If it's your first time you don't want to spend money unnecessarily and they usually have quite a few. Or does one of the seasoned friends have an old pair they could lend you?

MargaretCavendish · 01/04/2017 08:03

Ski stuff is very true to size but other shops aren't

But what does that mean?! Sizes aren't standard so surely your most 'usual' size is your 'true' size. I know everyone loves pointing out that today's size 12 would have been a 22+++hulkingbeastextrabig in the 50s or whatever, but surely it's not unreasonable to describe yourself as the size you normally buy?

Fletchasaurus · 01/04/2017 13:58

I finally had to buy new salopettes for this year and really struggled - Decathlon size 16 were no where near doing up, Go Outdoors size 18 were huge - hanging off me (they had no 16). I'm a 14 normally... I got some in the Sports Direct sale - 14s. As pp have said, depends massively on brand. Have a fantastic time.

Misericord · 01/04/2017 21:21

Also, whispers Aldi do some good, true to size ski clothing...

Chippednailvarnishing · 01/04/2017 21:24

How warm are they? They always seem very thin.

trixymalixy · 01/04/2017 21:29

Really depends on the brand. But yes for the most part they can be on the small side!

Jackets are not normally so bad, but some of the salopettes are teeny, especially if you try an Italian brand!!

WineAndTiramisu · 01/04/2017 21:33

Definitely agree, i ended up in the biggest size the brand did and I'm a size 12... My other half bought large men's, and i could only just do them up, he couldn't even get them up his legs!
