its that time of year again when i have to sort out deferring the repayment of an old student loan. previously, as i've been working, its been a case of sending 3 wage slips etc as proof.

but now i'm a sahm, nooooo, they can't take my word for it, i need to send a letter from dh saying that this is the case as proof because he is, as they put it, 'my third party support'.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

That's crazy. What if you were a lone parent?

ComeOVeneer · 07/03/2007 12:25

I would be furious.

littleolwinedrinkerme · 07/03/2007 12:26

That is outrageous - tell them to come round and see for themselves, and while they're at it can they help with the chores

tokentotty · 07/03/2007 12:27

Am absolutely fuming for you - that's outrageous. Think I'd have a hell of a lot to say about that.... Cue a torrent of 'Mrs Angry from xxxx' phone calls methinks

lucykate · 07/03/2007 12:48

the angry face smiley just isn't big enough

i've got to send this off in the next few days and it's killing me to have to ask dh to write this. i just know he's going to make me grovel about it.

Is there really no-one to escalate this to and complain ??? What I don't understand is why they ask DH, I mean, 3rd party he might be but as he obviously would have a vested interest in this he's hardly impartial ? Bl**dy ridiculous imho.

frenchconnection · 07/03/2007 14:17

Oh god, i have also just received my student loan referral form and have to get dh to write the exact same letter.Again. Horrible aint it? i also do work a hell of a lot but i get paid cash so cant even declare it.(tut tut)

i normally write the letter myself and just swallow hard and get dh to sign it.

frenchconnection · 07/03/2007 14:18

If you were a lone parent you would get the benefits office to stamp your form as proof, or if you worked and were a lone parent, they would write the letter.

Yes, I hate that too... have ranted many a time. We are just chattels

On the other hand, I just print out the same damn letter every year and get dh to sign it. They don't seem to have noticed yet.

Wow. I thought it’s enough information when you report to hmrc you’re no longer employed.
