I've NC as I'm slightly ashamed!

I'm an NQT, year 2 teacher and I've just been told that my contract will not be renewed in Spetemeber Sad They're cutting staff and are letting go of another teacher and various TA's. I'm devastated Sad I love the school and the staff!

I'm now looking to apply for jobs but each one wants a 2 page letter of application. I'm really bad at things like this Sad I don't know where to begin or how to stand out from the crowd.

Could anyone please help me if you have time to spare? Some sort of template I could edit? I know I'm asking a lot. Sad

I really wouldn't use any form of template for the letter, it won't help you stand out from any crowd!

Focus on the skills, attributes and passions that make you a good teacher. What you would bring to the school community. Examples of how you have contributed to your current school, in terms of both results and extra curricular, pastoral etc.

I feel your pain. I am a veteran form filler, but it took me more than 12 hours to properly complete an application for a job in a school recently.
The theory is that you go through the job description and person spec point by point, giving evidence of your experience matches their criteria. It takes forever, and is a dull and repetitive job

You need to have this moved to "The Staffroom" for more specialised traffic.

And while I'm here, the posts you are applying for will have a job and person spec, which you will need to address to succeed in your applications.

Teacher on mat leave here (for another couple of weeks). I would happily read your draft and give pointers if you wanted. I won't send my own though as tbh I think they want and need to hear from you, with your voice and passion coming through.

The structure I have used in the past:

  1. I would be grateful if you would consider my application for the position of...
  2. I am a qualified/unqualified teacher of X with experience in...
  3. My view of education is...
  4. I believe my experience and philosophy match the requirements of this position because...
  5. In previous roles I have...(give concrete examples)
  6. In the future I would like to... (development opportunities sought)

Hope this helps.
