I skip through long posts without paragraphs. AIBU to ask posters to use paragraphs in their posts?

So NU I had to post twice ConfusedGrin

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2017 08:37

Yes. I can read. I can read it if it's in paragraphs or not. It's all words.

Sometimes when posting on MN for support paragraphs aren't first priority.

If you CBA to read it you could hide it?

Trifleorbust · 23/03/2017 08:38

Oh YANBU. Impossible to read without paragraphs, and no paragraphs usually coincides with an unstructured writing style anyway.

TheNaze73 · 23/03/2017 08:38

YANBU. I often wonder if posters who do that, actually speak like that? Must do the heads in, of all those around them

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2017 08:40

How can anything be 'impossible to read?'. Confused

MaidOfStars · 23/03/2017 08:41

YABU. I make allowances for poor English skills. I make allowances for posters who might be upset and desperate. Also, my English comprehension is sufficiently good that I can make sense of walls of text.

purplecoathanger · 23/03/2017 08:42

Posts are difficult to read for me. Someone needing help might get more feedback if they use paragraphs.

OP posts:
Trifleorbust · 23/03/2017 08:49

Sparklingbrook:

Okay, impossible to read without wanting to drive nails into my eyes just for a bit of clarity.

Trifleorbust · 23/03/2017 08:50

To be fair, I'm sure no-one does this on purpose.

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2017 09:09

You could always C&P and sort it into paragraphs if you wanted to help that much.

WindwardCircle · 23/03/2017 09:13

I'm mildly dyslexic, I find words 'jump' around on the page. A wall of text with no breaks in it is really hard for me to read so I usually don't bother.

Reow · 23/03/2017 09:15

YANBU. I often give up after a few lines.

GladAllOver · 23/03/2017 09:30

YANBU.
I also tend to give up, faced with a thick wall of text. That's not a criticism of the writer, just that I'd rather read something easier.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 23/03/2017 09:34

YABU. If you can't read a post skip on by. Someone with a bit more understanding will come along and reply.

If you are the sort of poster who cares more about how a post is written rather than the content. Then maybe you won't be much help anyway.

BastardGoDarkly · 23/03/2017 09:38

You know what I hate more than no paragraphs? People posting on a clearly sensitive and emotional post.... Well I can't read that, there's no paragraphs... Its such a shitty thing to do.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 23/03/2017 09:41

Yes it is shitty. So they should just fuck off and find a thread that meets their standards.

purplecoathanger · 23/03/2017 13:39

It's nothing to do with standards. Posts without paragraphs are difficult to read. If people used paragraphs they would get more traffic and perhaps more support and advice.

For these reasons I think it's perfectly reasonable to mention it.

I've raised this on a new thread. It's not on a clearly sensitive and emotional post.

OP posts:
helpimitchy · 23/03/2017 13:54

YANBU

The no paragraph apologists should be happy that they possess the concentration abilities that reading a wall of text requires. Not all of us do.

To me, a long post without paragraphs looks like this:

Theotndhvntheifhtnrndjgncnt
Nightadhckvoepemcbgbdjcjg
Ftmskcjgbrvsgtjhospthfnvnfu
Zbchevxfwvfkhmgphoflrhdbc
Rbcjtbegchtntbdutnfbcytnrnd
Tnebxmekvntbdhdurgenynycp

Gottagetmoving · 23/03/2017 14:00

If a thread starts with a long story with no paragraphs I don't bother with it.
I have no idea why someone cannot press enter after a sentence to create a new paragraph when required.
It is nothing to do with grammar or spelling...Just press bloody 'enter' !!

SquatBetty · 23/03/2017 14:12

I find a huge paragraph of text really difficult to read if it doesn't have any line breaks in it. Even worse if the op hasn't used any punctuation as well.

But I appreciate some people are very distressed when they post and just wanting to write their thoughts down as quickly as possible.

StewieGMum · 23/03/2017 14:13

Whining about women's grammar when they're quite clearly upset and posting as a stream of consciousness is really quite nasty. And I say this as someone who does have trouble reading long posts due to disability. It would be lovely if we were all perfect, but we aren't and a little bit of compassion now and then wouldn't go amiss.

Porpoiselife · 23/03/2017 14:15

YANBU. I usually don't bother with ones which are just one massive brick of text.
