48-hour rule: presumably IANBU to do this?

I'm very fussy about the 48-hour rule (and don't want to start a debate on that...it's been done before etc etc etc).

DD was sick Friday night and yesterday, around 11am. She's fine now. But because I do observe the 48-hour rule (wish everyone else did but that's a different story) she won't go to nursery tomorrow. Or outside the house today.

But presumably it's okay for me to take her to the park tomorrow afternoon, assuming no further episodes and everything is fine (touch wood and so on)? We'd then be more than 48 hours clear; just feels a bit weird as she's technically 'off' nursery!

Yes you'd be fine. Have you checked your nursery's policy on this? My ds's school is only 24 hours. Obviously what you do is entirely up to you. Just FYI

I'd send her to nursery tomorrow. The 48 hour "rule" is generally misunderstood and misapplied.
No idea why you're asking strangers on the internet when you should take your own kid out of the house if you have your own rules about it though.

Assuming nursery starts at 9am tomorrow I'd send my dc to nursery for the sake of it being 46 hours rather than 48.
But even if not then yes definitely go out Monday afternoon as you'll be past the 48 hours.

I think you know your child. I've flouted the 48 hour rule before, because I know when my kid has a DV bug versus when they've been greedy little piggies & found my the biscuit/chocolate/sweets stash!

For the sake of 2 hours, & allowing your dd out the house for some fresh air, yes I would absolutely take her to the park tomorrow.

I'd taker her to nursery at 11am tomorrow. I can't miss work to stay at home with a well child. I respect the 48 hour rule - but interpret it to the minute, not whole days.

I would be sending mine to nursery tomorrow if well. I get the 48 hour rule but if they haven't been sick for 46h they're probably ok.

ImFuckingSpartacus - I don't have my own rules; I just make sure I follow the ones that exist. Suppose I was feeling a bit guilty about possibly taking her out even though I know it's fine. As for 'asking strangers on the internet', isn't that essentially what everyone does on this forum? Sometimes it's useful just to have someone say 'yeah, that's okay'. Or similar.

Of course you can go to the park! The park would be a very low risk area for transmission anyway even within the 48 hour rule.

I would send to nursery, worrying about going to the park two days after a minor sickness episode might be overkill, I think you'll be fine

My DDs school is also 24 hours not 48 too.

If she's better I would also send her to nursery tomorrow, it's only 2 hours "early"

I'd send her to nursery for 46 hours, why wouldn't you? I fail to see if a child's better what diffrence an extra 2 hours would make.

You don't have to follow the 48 hour rule with going outside to the park, common sense can be applied and 24-40 hours is probably enough. If the child's been ill some fresh air will probably do her good

Op, I would do what you are planning - keep her off tomorrow, but there's no need to stay in the house all day if she's feeling better.

But If I had a job and keeping my dd off for the sake of it being 46 hours since the last episode rather than 48, I think I would take the risk and send her to nursery.

I guess schools who say it should be 24 hours rather than 48 are just obsessed with their attendance records and have a cavalier attitude to the spread of stomach viruses.

I would take mine to the park etc ( they are too small for school so that doesn't apply to me) after 24 hours clear of sickness if they was bright and right again, no need for house arrest. In a park anyone they come in to contact with with be for such a short period and if they've been symptom free for 24 hours imo it's fine.

Yes it will be 45 or 46 hours, rather than 48, but I think a little parental discretion is fine.

Her "rule" is the same "rule" as the Nursery "rule".

She's only asking! If you don't have a view or couldn't care less, why would you bother to post just to make a sarcastic comment to (and I quote you here) a stranger on the internet?

Of course, it might make her feel better to get some fresh air outside. The park is a lovely idea! If she is bright and bouncy tomorrow morning though, I would send her to nursery. I don't think it makes too much of a difference. Hope she feels better soon x

My daughter's school have said they are more than happy to have the children back after 48 hours at whatever point in the day that may be so not a strange reply at all from I'mfuckingspartacus

Tbh though I'd take her back at 46 hours if she'd been ok!

I had to keep DD1 off school for 48 hours because she threw up after eating soap (she has ASD). It was a pain, and if it hadn't happened at school with witnesses I'd have sent her back to school, as it wasn't a bug.
