To take a toothbrush and paste to work?

Starting a new job today and I have slight cold and sore throat. Woke up convinced I ate a sewage farm overnight. Thoroughly brushed teeth but I have a feeling it will wear off and I will be very smelly sometime circa midday.

Is it bonkers to brush my teeth at work? Hopefully I can find somewhere private!

You could just smear a little toothpaste on your teeth? It would be easier to do.

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 13/03/2017 07:48

Entirely reasonable. Lots of people do it after lunch. Don't leave toothpaste muck all over the sink and taps.

mammmamia · 13/03/2017 07:51

I have braces so have no choice, I have to brush teeth after lunch.

Applebite · 13/03/2017 07:53

I clean my teeth at work if I'm getting ready to go out or if I've eaten chocolate. Loads of people do! So YaNBU. But if it worries you, chewing gum? Sugar free mints? Do they still make those wrigleys thin ice strips?

Vinorosso74 · 13/03/2017 07:55

Perfectly reasonable. I used to always keep a toothbrush and toothpaste at work as did quite a few people.

armpitz · 13/03/2017 07:56

I hate chewing gum! It makes me feel quite sick and I hate how it looks. Plus a bit of toothpaste or a mint won't cut it if you actually stink. A proper teeth clean is the way forwards!

Lots of people where I work have toothbrushes and paste in the bathroom for after lunch as we work with the public. Not unreasonable at all

MulderitsmeX · 13/03/2017 08:12

I and most of my colleagues do, it's lovely feely all clean in the afternoonSmile

TheNaze73 · 13/03/2017 08:30

I always brush my teeth after lunch. Most people in our office bring in a tooth brush.

Noodoodle · 13/03/2017 09:42

I had a colleague once who did that every single day. Had a spare toothbrush and toothpaste kept in the toilet in a little cup on the sink (office of three people and two toilets). We used to think it was quite funny but was just one of his eccentricities. Just don't bring spares for your colleagues - that's odd.

Happyandhungry · 13/03/2017 10:40

Sugar free mints.

Llamacorn · 13/03/2017 10:42

YANBU.
I always have a toothbrush and paste on hand - and know plenty of people who probably should too Grin

emmyhNL · 13/03/2017 10:49

Yep, I used to do it and most of my colleagues did it too

emsler · 13/03/2017 15:48

YANBU, but if it's bacterial tonsillitis (which is usually the cause of a sore throat and bad breath) brushing your teeth will only do so much - I'd suggest taking some mints as well!

mumonashoestring · 13/03/2017 16:06

I'd rather see someone brushing their teeth than be surrounded by people chewing gum (especially if they're chewing with their mouths open )

I keep a spare toothbrush and paste at work - sometimes we have evening events and I like to freshen up beforehand, sometimes you just feel 'manky' and need to do something about it.

DJBaggySmalls · 13/03/2017 16:06

I take one everywhere, I have a plastic case for it.

throughgrittedteeth · 13/03/2017 16:15

I always have them at work, mostly in case I'm in a rush first thing and don't manage to do it before I leave for work/school Blush

Also I find it useful if I have to go out for a dentist appointment during the day..

HLBug · 13/03/2017 17:39

I carry a travel size bottle of mouthwash in my hand bag for occasional freshening. I've never seen anyone brush their teeth at my work but wouldn't mind and would probably just think they were off to the dentist.

SauvignonPlonk · 13/03/2017 17:43

I have a brush and paste in my desk drawer for when gum and water just wot cut it. Why not?

farfarawayfromhome · 13/03/2017 18:00

I brush my teeth every lunch time at work, why would this be unacceptable?!

LucklessMonster · 13/03/2017 18:23

I've never seen anyone brush their teeth at work and I would think it was gross. Spitting in a public bathroom? No thanks.

farfarawayfromhome · 14/03/2017 14:38

luckless why is spitting out toothpaste into a sink any more offensive than piss and shit going into a toilet?

hellokittymania · 14/03/2017 14:42

I don't but I always carry around Mints

hellsbellsmelons · 14/03/2017 14:46

Spitting in a public bathroom? No thanks
Why?
Unless you rub your hands around the bowl?
Do you never go to the dentist straight from work?
If you do then I sincerely hope you brush your teeth before you do.

I often brush my teeth at work.
I always have toothbrush and toothpaste in my drawer.

hauntedhenry · 14/03/2017 15:33

I brush my teeth every day at work. All my colleagues do too - why is it funny or gross? I keep a travel toothbrush and mini paste in my makeup bag.
