To wish people would stop using transgender and intersex interchangeably??

I've noticed that this seems to have gone viral over the past couple of days metro.co.uk/2017/03/05/gay-teacher-uses-science-to-beat-anti-trans-bullies-6488964/.

For those who don't know, it's a science teachers response to a so-called transphobic meme which basically states that penis = male and vagina = female. The teacher basically tried to shut these "transphobic" people up by attempting to give a scientific explanation as to why people are transgendered.

It may sound good at first glance however she's not actually talking about transgender in her explanation is she? She's talking about intersex condition(s) which is not the same thing as being transgendered. What's even weirder is that nobody seems to have noticed her mistake and everybody seems to be praising her, sharing her post over and over and making out that she's a hero It's even been posted on here a few times by posters who are once again using the terms intersex and transgender interchangeably.

I am transgendered. I am not intersex and I do wish people would stop using them interchangeably and implying that they are the same thing.

I also think a science teacher should know better and that at least someone, anyone, should have called her out for her error by now

I have also seen activists linking to articles which include conditions such as PCOS in females and hypospadias in males, into the umbrella term intersex or DSDs (disorders of sex development).

As to the PCOS idiocy....well, if they're going to try to rope people like me in, I'd like to point out that the treatments include oestrogen or anti-androgens not testosterone ffs. And ones which for many of us enable our fertility, rather than destroying it.

I'm just baffled by how nobody has pulled her up on this or attempted to even correct her. Surely someone must have noticed?

There are some comments under that piece which are critical of it.

A facebook friend shared this, it's such a load of guff that I felt really irritated on reading it. She may be a 'science teacher' but what are her exact credentials? She could be teaching very young children and not even have a science degree. Both her science knowledge and her argument are very dubious. Apart from conflating intersex and trans, and talking about species which are totally different from humans, she refers to male and female 'hearts and brains' - this is not scientific fact! It's a load of nonsense!

I'm also at a loss to know why her sexuality is of the slightest relevance.
