I woke up this morning with a lovely coldsore on my bits, slap bang in the middle of me mons pubis. But it matches the coldsore I have on my lip. Lovely!

is it Herpes if it's on your outside bits?

I really dont want to go to the doctors. I have been very stressed and my diet's been shite recently, the last time I had a coldsore was during my finals years ago.

Also, Ive not had sex in ages so ive not been recently infected or anything

Sounds like it could be. The virus can lay dormant I believe.

I think genital herpes can appear anywhere on your genitals, nor just 'inside', as it were. I think it's also possible to catch a cold sore on your genitals, but I think usually from oral-genital contact, rather than for them just to pop out there when you usually get them on your face, iyswim.

Yep very easily could be. I get a regular flare up on my arm which I've had since before being sexually active. Not exactly common but it's a virus so can appear anywhere.

I am on proxac so havent been sexually active at all....certainly no mad wankathon so I have NO idea how ive managed to infect myself like this. Food, if you have it on your arm, is this not just another area, it coud still be HSV1, right?

Yep if it's on your pubic area it's genital herpes. Best to go to the docs because they can give you antiviral meds which will lessen the attack and make recurrences less likely. I had one attack 6 years ago, took the meds and never had it since, so don't worry too much.

Yes you will have to show them just to make sure I would to get it treated it can be way worse than what's on your face apparently

Genital herpes isn't the same as the coldsore herpes. Both can appear on your bits or your mouth. Hsv1 is the mouth virus and when on your bits, is much milder than Hsv2. Start taking l-lysine. It can lie dormant but it is also possible you've infected yourself.

But luckily a wife and mother and hopefully it shouldnt be a big deal, Im not planning any babies or new shag partners. but im horrified.

and i dont understand how it can transmogrify from a relatively boring coldsore to something more serious just because of location?

And im scared in case ive infected my kids, although i ghaven knowingly kissed them in the past few days, (but i certainly havent been kissing my nethers either so......feeling totally paranoid)

Usually HSV1 is oral & HSV2 is genital, but for obvious reasons either can be in either area. If its on the genitals it genital herpes, on the mouth it's oral, regardless of which virus caused it. You may have had it "down there" before & had a milder outbreak & not noticed.

Going to the doctors is nothing to worry about, they'll take a swab to be sure but will be able to give you a good idea just by looking at it. Try to go tomorrow because the earlier you start the meds the more effective they will be (if the doctor thinks it looks like herpes they will give you the meds before waiting for swab results to be on the safe side).

If you are worried about further outbreaks take monolaurin (google herpes and monolaurin).
