To wonder why there are so many zero hour/short term contracts?

I work in education. My contract is fixed term/rolling. I am lucky get this after 2 years of supply through agencies/ zero hour contracts.

Can someone explain IF zero hour contracts are more common than ever and WHY?

I blame neo-liberalism. The casualisation of contracts in higher education is pretty much the norm,now.
