How many dogs are there on your school run?

And do you live in a village, town or city?

Ours is a small village school, only 200 pupils, and this morning I counted 15 dogs including mine.

My eldest two went to a different, larger school in town, and I only ever saw one dog outside the gates.

So I'm doing an incredibly scientific poll to see if this is a rural v urban thing, or if our school run is just particularly dog friendly.

None, signs every 10 feet to say NO DOGS then a big long explanation under about how kids were afraid of them. So banned.

15 is a lot! We live in an inner city area. We used to have 2 but there was an incident where one of the dogs bit a drunk and was PTS to the outrage of the owner. They've now been banned from the school run in most of the local schools on the grounds of 'what if it were a child'.

At pick up there's about 5/6
The school has a dog of its own.

How is the 'school run' defined for dogs to be banned from it? My next door neighbour walks to the local school with her son, I also have to follow the same route to take my dog for a walk...I can't see that anyone could ban me from walking down my own street and up the next one past the school? That is my only route out of the estate, and sometimes I have to walk at school run time. Just intrigued as to how this works!

Dogs aren't allowed in the school grounds, not the actual school run.

EssieTregowan · 01/03/2017 10:46

Oh yes, no dogs allowed in the school grounds, but the entrance is off a woodlandy footpath so lots of dogs outside the gate.

Not seen any today

WaitrosePigeon · 01/03/2017 10:47

Quite a few, but the school is in a woodland so a lot of use the woods next to the school to take our dogs for walks. No dogs by the gate or on the school grounds, though. As it should be.

Too many anywhere from 5 to 20... Mine stays in the car ( we walk after)

WorraLiberty · 01/03/2017 10:50

I work on a school crossing outside an inner city school (500+ pupils) and I'd say probably only 1 or 2 dogs per week.

5 years ago you'd see about 4 or 5 dogs per day, but now they're not allowed in the playground and owners aren't allowed to tie them to the railings/gates either.

Dahlietta · 01/03/2017 10:51

None as everyone drives

Everyone drives to our school too (rural area, no footpaths), but still quite a few people seem to get their dogs out of their car to walk the few metres to the school gates! I would say I usually see 4 or 5.

JonesyAndTheSalad · 01/03/2017 10:52

We have lots who come for the walk but they all stay on the other side of the road as dogs aren't allowed. There's also a horse...we live rurally in Australia.
