To ask when the schools in London are off for Easter

Planning a trip to London and want to do a theme park with 3 young kids so don't want to be queuing. Will be coming from NI so hoping the school holidays will be different dates to here. Here my kids are off 2&3 week of April which is 10-21 April.

Can anyone tell me when school hols are? Looked online and thought they were 1st 2 weeks of April so thought we could do the 3rd week of April but then got different dates on another site.

Where I work (South London) it's the first two weeks, 3rd April the first day.

derektheladyhamster · 01/03/2017 07:11

Brighton ( so certainly able to get to theme parks if you're talking Thorpe park & legoland) are off the same dates as you.

Crunchymum · 01/03/2017 07:12

I'm North [central] London and first day is 3rd April. Back on Wednesday 19th (the Tuesday is an inset day)

musicteacheriz · 01/03/2017 07:12

All schools are different, it's two weeks within the first 3 weeks of April

YouMeddlingKids · 01/03/2017 07:12

Just outside London ours is 2 weeks from 5th April.

Madeyemoodysmum · 01/03/2017 07:16

Hertfordshire is 3rd to 17th. Private schools get an extra week after that.

Sixgeese · 01/03/2017 07:16

It depends on the school, my DC are off the two weeks before Easter (Easter Monday being the last day of the holiday) while DH teaches in a secondary school in the same area and his school is off the week before and the week after Easter (Easter weekend being the middle of his holiday)

It has caused no end of moaning by parents at the primary school as there are lots of families with children in both schools.

Wanted to do Legoland as seems the most appropriate for young kids. And don't want to pay for q bots for 5 of us.

Legoland attracts people from all over the country (as well as overseas visitors) so the exact term dates of the local schools is neither here nor there. I'd say it will be mental for all of the first 3 weeks of April.
You're best hoping for a rainy day as that puts some people off.

PatriciaHolm · 01/03/2017 07:29

It varies I'm afraid - here in Surrey we're off from Friday 31st, but Oxfordshire are the week later from the 7th. Legoland will be busy!

JigglyTuff · 01/03/2017 07:43

Berkshire also isn't on holiday until the 7th. Plus there was a cheap Legoland ticket off in the Times so it will be busy.

Get there early, do the big rides first and leave around 3

noenergy · 01/03/2017 07:43

Would it be quieter the 1st week of July?

OP posts:
RustyBear · 01/03/2017 07:55

JigglyTuff - West Berkshire & Reading are the 7th, but the rest of Berkshire (Wokingham, Windsor and Maidenhead, Slough & Bracknell Forest) all break up on the 31st.

JigglyTuff · 01/03/2017 19:27

Ah didn't realise - I don't actually live in Berkshire and didn't realise there were two LEAs.

OP quite possibly. We tend to go on inset days so if that is a school day for most kids, it's likely to be quieter in the bits for older kids - locals have annual passes and will go with younger kids if it's sunny

MrsTarzan1 · 01/03/2017 19:44

Midlands is 10th-24th

RustyBear · 01/03/2017 19:45

There are 6 LEAs in Berkshire now, Jiggly!

Vinorosso74 · 01/03/2017 19:53

Our London borough is first 2 weeks of April too

mummytime · 01/03/2017 20:13

1st week of July could be better, but not a Monday or Friday - lots of state schools have a "long weekend" about then (I used to call it the Legoland holiday). You might be unlucky and catch some school trips - probably private as they will be breaking up sooner.

JigglyTuff · 01/03/2017 20:29

Six??! Good grief - that's insane! We have one in the whole of Kent which is about double the size Grin

MaryWortleyMontagu · 01/03/2017 20:31

I'm in London and we are off from Friday 31 march and back on Tuesday 25 April (independent school).

ChippyMinton · 01/03/2017 20:35

Haven't been to Legoland for a while, but they used to offer a second day for a minimal extra cost. If you can, I'd do two dats, the first dat be there for opening and hit the popular rides early. Then have a more relaxed second day taking in the atmosphere.

MaryWortleyMontagu · 01/03/2017 20:37

Although we are off for three weeks with easter being late this year and lot of state schools around the country are either off the first two weeks of April (so back on easter Tuesday unless inset day) or off the middle two weeks (so back on Monday 24 April unless inset day) so places like legoland which attract visitors from all over the country (and abroad) are likely to be exceptionally busy until 24 April at least. Sorry.
