AIBU to hate Sylvain Families and the tiny pointless pieces that when you try to assemble into scenes completely collapse even if you try to use blu-tac to reinforce their stability?!!!

Really? Is the quality terrible on new ones?

My children have my old sylvanians from the 80s/90s. They were played with daily by myself and siblings, mine have used about 4 years now. All as new. Nothing does clip together though, they are all individual pieces

Rixera · 25/02/2017 11:36

Yes YABU. Sylvanians are the best! I still have my collection to pass on to DD ;)
To be fair I was an excessively patient child, and did such lame things as making furniture/paintings in frames for them. I spent so much time playing with those toys.

BillDoor · 25/02/2017 11:37

There's a brilliant sweary Facebook group that puts very adult phrases together with very nice sylvanian family scenes...Grin
It might cheer you up!

ChoccyJules · 25/02/2017 11:45

Ooh yes, love that, I follow it on Twitter, it's clever and very naughty (sometimes I have to click away as it exceeds my crudeness threshold).
We never had these things at home and I always thought they must be a pain to keep clean/not covered in germs, but then as someone who works with disabled and sometimes also poorly children I'm possibly a touch neurotic.

PuraVida · 25/02/2017 12:04

Arrgh the modern ones are dreadful. You get a set in a box only to discover it contains only part of the pictured scene. Upon opening you find essentially a cheap, brittle plastic three sided box and a sheet of 3668733 stickers. You patiently and painstaking stick on the stickers only for them to peel themselves off over the next few days. The teeny tiny cardboard boxes that are an integral part of the set (shoe boxes, toy boxes etc) don't stay folded the way they should. The tiny tiny tiny pieces ALL get lost within hours and it all costs £££. I think they're a massive rip off and really badly made. But dd loves them. Though she immediately takes off their clothes which then don't go back on. They're shit.

PuraVida · 25/02/2017 12:05

Too ranty for paragraphs. Sorry. Hopefully you sense my frustration

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 · 25/02/2017 12:06

Creepy little fuckers...

Poorlybabysickday · 25/02/2017 12:12

Ha ha my dd loves them, and she also undresses them immediately!

Lulu1083 · 25/02/2017 12:14

I don't find that at all PuraVida, they're not as good quality as the old school my collection but the stickers stay on and there's loads of pieces in each set

Artandco · 25/02/2017 12:15

Ah see the old ones contain no cardboard or stickers

Seryph · 25/02/2017 13:33

I don't know, my 90s ones definitely has some cardboard and stickers, but they all stayed stuck/didn't come apart.

Several of the sturdier bits of my old collection are held together with super glue though. A friend of mine had the habit of getting everything out then walking off, often over the top of the toys and not caring if they got broken...

cariadlet · 25/02/2017 14:09

YABU

Sylvanians are ridiculously expensive, but I love all the teeny little accessories. I felt very sad when I recently spent a couple of days with 14 year old dd packing away all her Sylvanians and putting them in the loft.

pickledparsnip · 25/02/2017 14:22

I bloody love Sylvanian Families. My ds has all of mine from the 80/90s. I've heard the newer ones are shit.

Roanoke · 25/02/2017 14:23

We like them here. Quality seems fine and I've not had anything fall down. What pieces require blu-tack?

manicinsomniac · 25/02/2017 15:01

YABU, they're amazing!

I desperately wanted some as a child but my parents said they were too expensive.

Now I collect vintage ones from ebay and car boots for my children and me !

DesignedForLife · 25/02/2017 15:15

I've got all my sylvanian families from the 90's in boxes in the attic ready in hope that DD will be interested in them when she is old enough. Or rather everything my mum didn't put in a black bin bag in frustration. Shame, what she chucked is worth a small fortune now. And the bits I've got left seem in very good condition. I loved that stuff, fiddly sweetshop jars, cardboard boxes and all.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 25/02/2017 15:28

Forest fr1ends. This one seems apt.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 25/02/2017 15:28

Could we have a link to the sweary Sylvanians? I've had a quick look but my keywords clearly suck!

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 25/02/2017 15:29

X-posted!

BillDoor · 25/02/2017 17:39

Grin that's the one!

Greensmurf1 · 03/03/2017 18:21

There is a party scene with a collapsing side table, a garden table with an umbrella that won't stay attached. A million little cups that topple over when laid out and all the animals collapse into the shoddy furniture and topple the buffet spread.
Will try Facebook group to cope with the stress. Wink

YABU: they are ace.

goose1964 · 03/03/2017 19:11

We're still finding odd bits of SF clothes in the house. DD is now 24 and has 3 kids of her own. YANBU

greenthings · 03/03/2017 19:22

They're just so bloody cute, how could you even think that. My son played with them for hours, and a little bit of me wished I could play too!
