To be overinvested in Aldi scallops

They used to do a bag of frozen queen scallops for £4.99. They seem to have stopped selling them altogether.

Can't find anything remotely comparable at Tesco. AIBU to feel bereft?

I wish you hadn't told me this. Didn't realise Aldi did them.
I love scallops!
So I am doubly bereft!

I'm sure I saw some scallops in the freezer section in lidl when I was in there a couple of weeks ago if you have one close by? They also sell nice fresh ones at the fish counter in our local Morrisons

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/02/2017 19:35

Iceland?

Preschoolprimadonna · 10/02/2017 20:21

Thanks for the suggestions! We have a Lidl and an Iceland in the town centre so will check out when I'm next there.

Apparently they were s seasonal special as nothing says Christmas like scallops. Confused

Scallops are like angels dancing on your tongue

Beeziekn33ze · 10/02/2017 20:33

YANBU - Spanish friend and agree they are gorgeous. I knew I should have stocked up. 🙁

Mum2jenny · 10/02/2017 20:35

I've seen them in Sains burys recently

SauvignonBlanche · 10/02/2017 20:36

I get mine from Sainsburys, I never knew Aldi did them.

bobberybobble · 10/02/2017 20:41

Waitrose do them and m&s for pretty much the same price.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/02/2017 20:49

I love scallops. In my late 30s I became allergic. All mentions of them, including this thread make me feel bereft.Sad

Preschoolprimadonna · 10/02/2017 21:11

I had the last from our freezer this evening. Sad

I checked out Iceland's scallops - £12 for a bag. Daylight robbery compared to Aldi's £4.99.

Sad

Why haven't I seen these before?! At least you got a taste of them!

TigerBreadAddict · 13/02/2017 21:04

Never tried scallops, what are they like?

Jaagojaago · 13/02/2017 21:05

How do you prep and eat scallops from frozen? Recipe? Anything with garlic generally sits well with me

Longdistance · 13/02/2017 21:13

Scallops defrost quite quickly.

You don't cook for too long as they go rubbery otherwise. Once 'warmed' through, they will melt in your mouth.

I too love those ALDI scallops 😋

Longdistance · 13/02/2017 21:16

I have these in my freezer at the moment.

Usually I defrost them, then dry them off with a kitchen towel.

Then I fry up some bacon lardons and fry the scallops in a hot pan in the bacon fat - about 2 mins each side. (Don't over cook as they're fine even raw but chewy if over cooked.)

Serve on top of a risotto with Parmesan.

@Longdistance SO jealous.

Oooh primadonna I love those! They're definitely not seasonally- I asked about it and have been buying for 2 plus years. They stock them periodically - probably two months on, one month / six weeks off. I try keep two or three bags in the freezer at a time. They'll probably have more in around Easter - just keep checking.
