Tried to start a parking war...

Annihilated the enemy with the first F bomb.

Boooooo!!!!!Hmm

Private car park, land jointly owned by the flat owners. 10 minutes walk from the city centre. Can't install a barrier as it has a public road running through the middle.
For months we have had a BMW park here and go to work in the city. He ignored the tickets issued by the private parking firm employed by the owners association and no one was able to catch him to talk to him.

Hacked off, I posted a big notice stating "This is not a park and ride facility, it's private property. If you want to park here but a flat, otherwise FUCK OFF". As it was raining it was plastered to his windscreen.

That was two days ago and he hasn't parked there since.
AIBU to be disappointed that I didn't get a Jenny-and-Jolly style war?

roseshippy · 09/02/2017 16:12

ooh, more parking threads.

OnceUponATimeInLondon · 09/02/2017 16:16

Exact same situation - been wondering how to deal with it - thank OP!

roseshippy · 09/02/2017 16:17

I think the normal thing is:

day 1 - rude note on windscreen
day 2 - car gets vandalised.

not suggesting it, but unless the BMW is an old shitheap he presumably would be worried???

www.gov.uk/guidance/abandoned-vehicles-council-responsibilities

Report it as abandoned if it returns....... Smile

FireInTheHead · 09/02/2017 16:54

I'm confused - admittedly not an unprecedented state for me - but shouldn't the private parking firm you are paying have signs up saying "unauthorised vehicles will be towed or clamped" or something? In view of the fact the same driver is a repeat offender and has previously ignored tickets, they sound pretty useless to me. You don't have a parking war problem you have a parking firm problem.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 09/02/2017 16:56

Private firms can't clamps they can't really do anything. The only car parks that can issue tickets that you legally have to back are council owned ones.

FairfaxAikman · 09/02/2017 17:05

Fire we are in Scotland where neither is a legal practice

Bugger I know this (due to work I know a lot of the ins and outs of the legal situation) and would rather not have them, but have to abide by the majority decision. TBF it does stop the majority (there's one arsehole who lives nearby who ignores all tickets and notes) as they get one ticket and never do it again.

Oh ok, thanks for explaining. I'm in the USA here so it's very different.

So, employing a parking firm is just a waste of money since drivers must know they have no teeth and can't enforce the tickets they issue. I'd also be asking the home association board what's the point?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 09/02/2017 17:15

Mr BMW is now driving his wife's car in a bid to fool you. It'll be the Mini parked up the corner Wink.

Rollercoaster1920 · 09/02/2017 17:18

Very sticky stickers on the wind screen. Not vandalism, but annoying.

c3pu · 09/02/2017 17:52

Let the air out of his tyres, one tyre per day.

akkakk · 09/02/2017 18:02

if land owners contract with a parking firm, it is now possible to pursue to court the law changed recently - however contract / signs / tickets etc. all have to be done correctly...

FairfaxAikman · 09/02/2017 18:04

Only in England Akkakk.
In Scotland they can only pursue the driver, not the keeper, and there is no requirement for the keeper to identify the driver. If they cannot prove who the driver is then there's nothing they can do.

Collect all the junk mail leaflets and put them on his windscreen

CigarsofthePharoahs · 09/02/2017 18:44

Yogurt. Spray it on the windscreen so it looks like bird poo. When it dries out, it's a pain to get off.

MumW · 09/02/2017 18:53

Apparently, if you stick a plastic mouth organ to the radiator grill then it makes an irratating high pitched whistle as the car moves along confusing the hell out of the driver without doing any damage!
