To ask previous tenant to come back to empty this bin??

Ok ok, so I know they never will, but it's DISGUSTING... I moved house last September and have literally taken hardly any notice of the garden up until now- there's a fence, and a bush. And a bin. It's hiding (or was) behind the bush, and I literally didn't even notice that it was there (well hidden) until today.

Today I decided to cut down The Bush. When I had done this I had to move The Bin, bugger me the thing just fell over and the most putrid shit stinking maggoty foul brown stinking liquid poured forth down the garden. I can only assume it is literally a year's worth of dog shit and God knows what in there that has been left to fester over the winter.

What am I meant to do with it??? It's a serious health hazard for a start, my garden now STINKS and is covered in it. I've got half a mind to send a message to the girl who used to live here about it, dirty cow! Will the council remove this type of thing??

You landlord should sort that out for you.

Contact the council and see what they advise

Tip the water away onto grass or down a drain, tip any solid contents into a new bin bag, seal it up and then hose away the bin juice and clean out the bin.

Of course the council will remove it. When you leave it with the rest of your regular rubbish to be collected.

Is this the gardem waste? In our area they don't lift up garden bins over winter, perhaps that's what has happened.

God that sounds bloody awful. Yes, give the landlord and council a ring. Please update us.

sparechange - if it was rubbish I would do that. If it's shit - not a hope in hell. I would vomit, I truly would, and I'm not generally particularly squeamish.

I think I'd ring the landlord before the council.

I have garden waste left in my bin over Winter, it doesn't stink at all. Sounds like they've used it as a dog shit bin, the dirty B's.

It's probably just stagnant water, I tipped some over by accident the other day and it smelt like the Devil's large intestine. (This is why I fucking HATE gardening.)

Also, I'm not clear if you rent or own the property, but if you rent you'll need to landlord's permission to cut down the bush!

It's not a wheelie bin, just a black dustbin, and judging from other stuff left by them I 100% believe it to be dog poo in there (we had to rip up dog piss soaked carpets the day after we moved in- it is a council house and we exchanged to it as we wanted to be in that area)

As a previous poster said I think I would puke If I have to move it- it's defo not normal garden waste, it's black bin bags full of crap which have been shoved in this bin which has then filled with water over winter. There isn't really anywhere for the spilled water to drain to either, the whole garden needs a bit of attention.

Have rang the housing association to ask if they will remove it- I am hopeful they will otherwise I will have to put on a hazardous waste suit!

You have ignored a bin since September, that's your fault.

Worst case scenario, drill holes into the bottom to let it drain... That will help.

Ewwwww this sounds gross. I remember having to deal with maggots from a food bin that had only coming within a week and it was horrid.
I'm afraid though that while the bin isn't your fault, you moved in 5 months ago so it is now your responsibility. That's nearly half a year. I hope the housing association will sort it for you.

It might be something like nettle fertiliser - a gardening concoction that smells like death died.

Been there, done that! Previous tenants of my daughter's house left a broken bin filled with cardboard, paint trays, trainer, tins, glass, nappies, dog poo bags, dead maggots. The council wouldn't fix it until it had been emptied (lid was snapped off) and it had obviously collected the rain in there.

Scruffy clothes, long rubber gloves, wrapped myself in bin bags, tea towel wrapped round my face to avoid the smell plus a long handled rake, scooped it out bit by bit and put it into strong bags. I still couldn't move it after getting the stuff out, too full of water, so I had to get the water/sludge out with a bucket and tip in down the drain until it was light enough for me to drag over to the drain and tip down the remainder. Worst couple of hours of my life!! I even Googled the symptoms of cholera, just to be on the safe side.

Afterwards I threw everything into the washing machine at 90 degrees, including my trainers, and had a very long shower! I'm still alive!

Oh and just so you know, the landlord is a relative who lives overseas, hence the reason why good old mum (with the strongest stomach) got the short straw for that one!

I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the council. They don't generally move waste products even from right outside doors; it's usually the responsibility of the tenant. They might make an exception though.

If they don't, I'd be wearing bin bag clothes, something over my face and fully preparing to throw up. Nasty job. I had to clean human excrement from outside a flat once, it was awful.

A power washer should help with the garden if it's already a state anyway.

Contact the council, explain and ask for help

She didn't know it was there, fine. It's still been left since September. That may not be OP's fault but it certainly isn't the fault of the previous occupant
