... to wonder about Apple Tree Yard and filming on location in London

I've watch the series, and having worked in that area many years ago, I recognize many of locations/sets. When I worked there it was always so busy, so many people, ...etc...

I find it amazing they were able to film so much on location, not just a once off, but over a number of episodes.

And Emily Watson continues to be such an interesting actress.

In Apple Tree Yard she walks along Charlotte Place in Fitzrovia a few times. They shot it early on a Sunday and sent an email round to a lot of the residents in advance.

Imagine looking out your office window in July to find it had snowed! This happened in Cambridge when they filmed the Christmas episode of Grantchester! 😀

We went to Hayfield in the Peak District to walk kinder scout while they were filming The Village. The street was all kitted out of the era it was set in and they had people stopping the traffic while they filmed, minutes at a time. Interesting, but I can imagine very annoying if you live there.

For the Bourne filming they had signs up at all entrances basically saying that they were filming and if you went into the station you were consenting to being filmed. I don't think I was in it (boo) but Matt Damon ran past some of my colleagues!

Also some scenes in Trainspotting2.
Even in my wildest early morning wanderings, I have never seen Edinburgh so quiet as it was in a few scenes. Brilliant film though.

They filmed Bourne on the DLR between Woolwich Arsenal and King George as well. They made the station look like it was in Athens I think. It was open, the local FB page was full of photos of Matt Damon.

I just felt sorry for them, Hollywood superstars and they land up filming in Woolwich for the day.

Allthe best According to a mag interview that was filmed back in October.

Lots of filming around here. Often go to walk down a round and it's blocked for filming. Or you walk onto a set as did many when Jamie was filming the market ones.. not sure if they ever used that one, sound guys would have had to be very creative with some of the stuff chucked his
Way.

I went to London recently and went to the Tower of London. The tower itself was open but he grounds were closed off for a film crew.

Parton the new Fast and Furious filmed near us recently, near a castle and then into the city centre one day. Parts of certain roads closedown for props falling and cry speeding round. One day is all it took.

I've worked on two films that shot scenes in major London train stations.

One of the Fast and Furious films shot in Waterloo, but in an empty/abandoned part (the bit that used to be the Eurostar platforms) with hundreds of extras. Took many hours just to film one little bit.

St Trinians 2 shot at Liverpool Street, in public, and actually had a competition for the public to 'win' roles as (unpaid) extras, which is naughty of them. Shot super quick.

I've also worked on a film (The King's Speech) shot right outside Buckingham Palace, in the early hours of the morning iirc. They closed off a small area so the public couldn't walk into the shot.

Oh, and I visited Glasgow when they were shooting that zombie movie and they had an entire street closed off and full of cars with fake corpses in them, which were just left unattended overnight!

TFL have an unused tube station (Aldwych) that they rent out for film shoots. Hardly any working underground stations are closed at weekends unless it's for repairs - just a couple mainly at the ends of the lines but they are outdoor stations so not much use for underground shoots.

Was it St Margaret's station they were filming by? I too felt like I recognised some of the spots but couldn't put my finger on it! Best drama I've seen in a while...

I used to live in Oxford and some costume drama was being filmed - they had rubber bits to put on the road over the double yellows.

Alconleigh · 05/02/2017 22:27

It was Chiswick station. Which is the Grove Paul side of Chiswick.

Park even. No idea what Paul has got to do with it.
