Pregnant and hormonal ... aibu?

It's not very long, and I'm probably a tad hormonal. I am 25 weeks pregnant today and, at 17 weeks, I had a 3d gender scan: a good potty shot showed little one was most definitely a boy.

At our 20 week scan the NHS ultrasound tech couldn't get a clear shot but thought he was still a he.
I have another scan at 30 weeks and a last one at 34 weeks (issues related to growth and previous pregnancy). So a lot of time to see if he is still a he.

OHs mum went to see a medium who told her baby is a girl, now we apparently should get another 3d scan to check at our own expense. She's completely convinced. I'm refusing and apparently being unreasonable because she needs to know and we'll need to change things.

Tell me I'm not being unreasonable to just say no to this ridiculousness?

Tell her all of mn tell you the scan is right and it's def a boy!!

She is crazy and unreasonable for being sucked in by a medium. And no of course you shouldn't pay for another scan. You will all find out the gender in a few months anyway, who cares?!

Scans should be kept to an absolute minimum as there are safely risks. She is being vv unreasonable.

Mil told me her medium told her the baby i was pregnant with was a boy and he would be the only one i would have. I knew the baby was a girl and i now have 2 kids.

I just said 'oh......anyway i have to go now bye"'

So you had one scan = boy and another scan = most likely boy and you have 2 more scheduled?

So you haven't had a load of scans confirming boy? Just the one (and a half) ?

I still wouldn't worry it's usually girls that end up being boys if the gender scan was wrong.

user892 do you have evidence to support this? My DC2 was high risk and I had at least 10 scan with her. She is fine. Please don't scaremonger!!!

First scan showed two little testicles nestled between two little legs.
Second scan baby was lying almost face down but confirmed as much as she could.
We will have another 2 before he comes and still have time to swap items (I'm an obsessive reciept keeper).

The worst that could happen is the baby has a lot of gender neutral clothes to begin with and I would need to swap some older clothes.

Also, currently eating mini sausage rolls, nuggets and bread and butter: the anger is slowly subsiding. I'm possibly hangry.

That's ridiculous. Even if he was a she (which he obviously isn't) what would she or you need to change anyway?

How about saying to MiL that if she'd like you to check it's going to cost £x and then just tell her what the 30 week scan says. Whilst it'd be wrong to rip your mother in law off, she's only going to go and waste her money on fucking nonsense from a charlatan.

Btw a psychic told me i'm having a girl when I was 15 weeks. 3 weeks later gender scan suggested boy and 20 week scan confirmed it.

Why is this even a conversation. Just say you're not paying for it. You have had your 3D scan.
I'm sure there is a time they tell you it's not really worth going as it's all too squished to get a real shot. Just tell her that

I've had at least a dozen scans per pregnancy and I've yet to give birth to a three headed child. Ultrasounds are perfectly safe, if they weren't then they'd tell you the risks before letting you decide whether to have one or not and the private 'baby boutique' scanning places on the high street would be much more heavily regulated. You can get a scan at Mothercare now, for goodness sake.

OP, I wouldn't get another scan on the say so of a medium. That's ridiculous. Keep your money, the scans you have had say you're having a boy so you are more than likely having a boy.

Thought it was x rays that were dodgy? I've always thought scans were fine. Echo technology, surely?

These mediums are missing a trick. My Grandad was a GP and had a near god-like reputation as being able to predict baby's sex from bump size/position etc (all in the days before scans obviously). If the Mum-to-be asked to know the sex, he would tell her one thing then write the other in his notes. If he was right... No problem. If he was wrong, the new Mum would tell him so, at which point he would look puzzled, say 'no I definitely remember saying the other - let me check my notes' and then he'd be able to 'prove' to the poor confused sleep deprived new Mum that she'd misheard all along. Evil, but very effective.

Medium my arse! I'm a large and I say it's a boy. Tell her she's been outranked.
