I was wondering whether anyone else not trained in hair dressing, cuts their own hair. Last time I convinced DH to do it whilst my hair was in a bobble, but he won't do it again. My hair goes down to my hips now and is annoying me, but I begrudge £20/30 for a trim just because my hair is classed as long, because I'm tight.
I have wondered about going as a treat and having my hair cut really short, like a pixie crop or maybe shorter. But DH thinks it's U feminine. But I imagine it'd be easy to look after. The only problem I've got is a hairline that forces a centre parting which is pretty annoying. Has anyone on here got short hair? Is it easier to maintain? Does your hair get thicker the shorter it's cut off?

I love how I look with short hair, but it grows very quickly and I get marked off having to go in every 4-6 weeks to keep the style. So if you begrudge spending that on a trim, you'll definitely hate maintaining a pixie crop.

I also find it higher maintenance than the chin length hair I have now.

There is that you're right, what a shame. I might have to see if YouTube does tutorials on hair dressing. Obviously I would never dream of a pixie cut, but something shorter I could maintain would be great.
I know I sound super tight, but it's also sitting for ages whilst they perfect it too. One hair cut I struggled to keep my eyes open. Do we have any self taught hairdressers on here?

This is my hair style right now (but I'm not the girl in the photo unfortunately, she's bloody gorgeous).
I've gone from long hair to this as my hair was quite sea and sun damaged and in dire need of something.
My hairdresser initially cut my hair shorter than this so it would grow into this which at week 5, it is very similar. I'm planning to go to the hairdresser in about 3 weeks to neaten the shorter side up.
It's very easy to look after. As a swimmer, it dries quickly and needs very little to no styling. I push the longer side behind my ear while I'm working/cooking etc.
Like you, my hair tends to fall in a centre parting but this kind of stays to the side, more so if I take the time to blow dry it to the side. It takes minutes.
Take the plunge! Hair grows. It's a change and you'll never know until you do it. You may love it and won't mind the upkeep too much.

I have a very simikar cut to pirate. Although my longer side has just been made a bit shorter.

I leave it about every 6-8 weeks for cutting. If the short side gets a bit long, i just stick it behind my ear.

That said, i dont mind going to the hair dressers. My dh isnt a fan of short hair. But i do. So its tough.

What is with these men & long hair? I don't get it at all (was adult in 1980s when short hair was v cool & worn by beautiful women e.g. Linda Evangelista, Princess Diana, Annie Lennox etc).

big i dont know. It pissed me off. Tbh it wasnt just the hair. Dh went through a period of being a complete control freak. Had i have found MN 8 years ago i would have left.

Thankfully with counselling and a lot of time he is a changed man and now likes that i have my hair how i like. It's not fucking easy though. Still concerned his old ways will come back.

But its always made me wary of men that dont like their wives having a certain hair style. Sorry for the derail.

Google the Lee Stafford method of cutting your own hair. You basically put your hair in a ponytail on the top of your head and hack it off.
There are you tube videos on line. I've been doing this now for a couple of years and it is easy to maintain. Good luck!
