AIBU re DH cooking beef joint?

Maybe I am! We've got friends coming for a roast at 4. Ideally I'd like I eat no later than 5pm. At 1.15 I came downstairs to find DH putting a nearly 2kg joint in the slow cooker. Less than 4hrs to cook?! He was going to put it on the high setting but still, it made no sense to me at all. So we had a little "disagreement" and I said I wanted to take over the cooking, so it's now roasting nicely in the oven. He's really cross with me for interfering, and I suspect he's in the right here, but to me, if you want to slow cook a joint, then you SLOW cook it, for hours. Or what's the point?! Thoughts please MN :)

What cut of beef is it?

HeyRoly · 29/01/2017 14:22

I'm with you. Slow cookers are for slow cooking. He should have put it on in the morning if he wanted to use the SC.

tassisssss · 29/01/2017 14:23

I'm with you, not long enough to slow cook.

Pot roast in oven?

MrsDc7 · 29/01/2017 14:24

I think you'd have ended up eating at 10pm but I'm not an expert

Dogivemeabreak · 29/01/2017 14:36

Plenty of time on high in a slow cooker for 4 hours.

PUGaLUGS · 29/01/2017 14:38

Not enough time in the slow cooker imo.

grumpysquash3 · 29/01/2017 14:57

They produce different kinds of meals anyway. Roast beef is just that, ideal with roast potatoes, Yorkies etc. . Slow cooked beef is soft and has a different texture.

Roast is nicer IMO (misses point of thread)

TinklyLittleLaugh · 29/01/2017 15:01

I don't have a slow cooker, but it seems a shame tp put the sort of expensive cut that is good to roast in a slow cooker.

wherearemymarbles · 29/01/2017 15:02

What joint is it?
Shudders at the thought of sirloin...Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/01/2017 15:03

I put brisket in the slowy for about 8 hours

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/01/2017 15:12

A roasting joint will take 4 -5 hrs on high in the SC. It'll be fine, I do it all the time.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/01/2017 15:13

He needs to sear it first.

ClashCityRocker · 29/01/2017 15:28

Brisket is great for slow cooking but it is a different meal to roast beef, IME.

Certain cuts benefit from being roasted.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 29/01/2017 15:31

What cut?

EveOnline2016 · 29/01/2017 15:32

It would piss me off if anyone took over when I am cooking.

I like my beef so it still has pink inside, so 4 hours in a slow cooker would be fine.

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/01/2017 16:34

I agree Clash
Different cuts need different ways of cooking.
