Banned dog in playground

Last year a dog bit my son, on the face, whilst he was in the school playground. He was standing still and the attack was unprovoked. The dog was banned from the playground by the head, but this morning it was back. The guy stopped inside the gate rather than going to the school door, but it was still in the playground.

Surely a banned dog is a banned dog? I'm raging!!

For context, my son has special needs so impulse control is nada and he runs straight up to dogs, but he was genuinely doing nothing when he was bitten, and I believe that any dog in a school playground should be pretty much 'bullet-proof', or don't risk it!

Your son got bit in the face on school grounds and the head "banned the dog"? Dogs shouldn't be in school playgrounds anyway.

And this dog is clearly dangerous but wasn't put down? Sorry, but what the fuck?

Unfortunately I agree that dogs shouldn't be in the playground and that dog shouldn't be anywhere near children anyway (I wouldn't be happy with it being tied up outside the school either).

I agree - I hate dogs being in the playground (and I love dogs). The playground is for the kids to run around - that's not a suitable environment for a lot of dogs, and obviously some owners can't be trusted to make that call safely.

My daughter was bitten by a dog, also an unprovoked attack when she was 2 and the dog was not put down either. The police said that they as long as the dog was sent to a rescue centre and the next owners were made aware that it has bitten someone that's all they can do!

Also on her face and she has permanent scars.

There are around 5-10 dogs in the playground every school-run. It makes my life really difficult because I can't relax and let me son run around. I need to be close to him to police his interactions with all the random dogs!

Our head is militant about dogs in the playground. Even silly little ones being carried around. She kicks them out!

Doesn't stop the stupid owners from tying them to the gate so you have to climb over them

Why would their be dogs in the playground? Do parents bring them in? There is no way dogs should be allowed on school grounds.

When your son was attacked, why wasn't the dog warden called and the dog put down?

No dogs in our school grounds at all. Head even gets a bit shirty about dogs being tied up briefly outside the grounds whilst kids are delivered inside. Email to the head I think...

I don't think dogs should ever be allowed in the playground.

However, any dog when spooked can react badly. If it got a shock by a boy running at it and couldn't get away its the only defense it had. The owner is stupid for taking it there in the first place but I would be careful incase something like this happens again.

I'm afraid I would have gone tiger mother and had an eastenders style screaming match at that owner this morning! I love dogs. I have one and he is my 3rd child but I've never brought him to school. Playgrounds aren't for dogs! I'd have confronted him and told him to take it out.

Op I wouldn't wait for the next time, speak to the head again! Dogs shouldn't be on the playground let alone one that has bitten a child. I would be so angry at seeing that again.

No dogs should ever be in the play ground. Dogs are not even allowed in the car park at our school. Definitely make the head aware.

Why weren't the police called when he was bit? Dogs aren't allowed in the playground here, but they are all tied up at the gate barking and yapping. I don't see the need to bring them on the school run it's hectic enough m.

I am a huge dog lover and owner , BUT agree no dog should ever be in a playgroung however calm it may be.

At my dcs respective schools there is a ban on dogs in the playground and near the gate, my sons school even bans dogs from the car park.

I would really put pressure on the Head to stop this practice.

I am a dog lover and owner, you have every right to be raging that this dog is anywhere near anyone in public at the absolute minimum without a muzzle on. If mine bit a child on the face, unprovoked I would be making the decision to have my dog put down.

Yes, were the police involved when your DS got bitten?

I'd be contacting the head and saying i wanted ALL dogs banned from the school grounds and i'd be taking it further if he wont comply.

The police were called but the dog was not destroyed. I was ok with that as I thought, stupidly apparently, that owners would abide by the head's ban.

I I see the dog in the playground again I will politely inform the owners that it's not on and that I'll pursue the matter with the authorities if they persist.

I'm still shaking with rage - how can people be so irresponsible with children's safety?

I'm sorry about your daughter getting bitten bees - it's so horrible. My DS still talks about it.

I'd be raging too, def call the school to get them to act. If school unhelpful I would call your local authority & ask their help, your sons( & every other child) safety is paramount. I had a different safety issue that my ds school were not getting & council sorted it next day.

dogs shouldn't be allowed in the playground, my dd's school has a no dog policy but there are still some people that seem to think that the rules don't apply to them and bring their dogs in the playground in the summer, not so much in the winter though, probably too cod for them.
report the owner to the head, this dog should not be allowed near the school if it bit your son on the face.. what if it attacks another child for no reason!!

I'd complain to the Head.
