AIBU internship application and time off to attend sister's wedding

Hi everyone,

I'd like to apply for an internship abroad (in Europe). It's expected to last for 6 months and to start in July this year.

The only thing is that my sister's wedding is at the end of August. Her partner and her have asked guests if they'd like to stay for three weekdays, so I'd have to take Monday to Wednesday off for the actual wedding, and then Thursday off as well for travelling back from the wedding. Altogether, this would be four weekdays away from work, if I got the job.

I am very close to my sister, and really would love to go to the wedding. The thing at the moment is just that I'm wondering when I would mention asking about time off to the company who I'm applying to do the internship with? During the application process, or further on in if I happen to get the job?

What would you do? Do you think I should still apply?

Thanks everyone :)

I would wait until you actually get the job. It is not unreasonable, weddings are planned months in advance.

Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

On a 6 month internship you should still be entitled to annual leave so go for it!

Yes of course, generally at an interview they will ask you if you have any holidays booked. Tell them then. And good luck

good luck with the interview, I mean. Not good luck with telling them, you won't need any luck there

I would wait until you're offered the internship to ask about the possibility of time off for your sister's wedding. I wouldn't ask for all 4 days, though. I would ask for the travel time and the wedding day only. The internship isn't that long.
