Bit annoyed

I had a rejig of my money, remortgaged, paid off loans and cards

Thought I was sitting pretty

Then... one of my cards sent a statement today and there's nearly a grand still outstanding?!?!

I wouldn't be as annoyed if I had guessed the outstanding balance, but I telephoned them and told them that I wanted to pay it all off.

So now I have a debt that I have to cover that shouldn't be there

Ask for a breakdown of how this happened, where has the extra £1000 come from, why wasn't it declared before? Don't just pay it, ask questions first

The payment I made (matches my bank statement) is there

It's an interest free credit card, and no fees are mentioned

With my cc I have an SO or DD to pay it off automatically. But if I get the bill and phone up to pay it off, it still takes the dd. Might this be what has happened?

No, I made a big payment, and then the dd went through (under 100)

There's no additions it's like the bill was 3000 and I paid 2000 - it's not new money out, it's mine and I accept that.

No, I get that remortgaging to pay an interest free card might seem odd, however when your outgoings are getting unmanageable what else can you do?

The AIBU is that I asked them how much was outstanding, and paid what they td me wad outstanding and for the last few weeks have been thinking I am debt free (except mortgsge) and now I have to find more money

it is a bit off that they've done that. i would definitely speak to them. especially as from what you are saying it's not been accumulate in the time immediately before paying it off.
i do think it's unreasonable of them, i assume there's been a mix up somewhere.

There's a chance that the information wasn't apparent, esp if you used the card close to Christmas.
I would say it is important to reconcile statements with receipts as companies do, just to ensure that you know the transactions are legitimate. At the same time you can keep a track of all your finances, so you get no surprises like this in the future.

Would they have kept a recording of the call? (No idea how it works) then ask why they didn't give the full amount.

I'd call and find out why you were not told the correct amount.

I would have assumed they told you what the balance was at that moment and that other purchases came in after this time.

If it is exactly a thousand then I would assume it's human error and someone just read the figure out wrong. How did you then pay it, directly over the phone with them or did you go away and sort it yourself?
