DH has got a new job and is currently working his notice period. I work in a job with good holidays at set times, you cannot take days off outside this time. DCs primary school has just announced a mid term INSET day. DH usually takes a day off for this but can't as he's leaving and isn't entitled to any holiday in this period. Nearest family is 3hrs away and any friends work and will be farming their kids off to family. We have no one who can look after DC and I can't take a day off. AIBU to phone on sick that day??

As dh is working out his notice I'd get him to take the day off sick

YWBU, but you know that. Just be honest- tell them you have no child care and ask to take parental leave. Worst case, you don't get paid that day.

Or better still, have hubby do that- he won't care if work don't like it.

Yes I agree the only choice you have is to take unpaid leave

Oysterbabe · 21/01/2017 15:11

Just take dependants leave. I've had to do this lots when DD has been ill.

What's to prevent either of you requesting unpaid leave?

Sorry just noticed you have set holidays. He can request unpaid leave then.
