To not know what to say?

Clearing kitchen earlier and saw couple of bread rolls on side - they weren't in cupboard and looked quite hard and stale, so I chucked them. Thought they had been there for few days. Now flatmate has just texted round asking if someone put their bread in bin - don't know what to say! Obviously I'll replace it, just hate situations like this. We all have cupboards for this purpose, and I thought it was unclaimed and had just been left there!

So there's multiple flat mates?

Did anyone see you?

If not, deny all knowledge. Safest all round.

I feel like should say though, don't want anyone else to get blame!

You don't know what to say? How about:

"They weren't in the cupboard and looked quite hard and stale, so I chucked them. Obviously, I'll replace them. Sorry."

I threw some manky, stale bread away, earlier, before it walked there, itself. Was that yours, then? Ewww!!!!!!!!

Just tell the truth, 'really sorry- I thought they had gone off, I'll replace in the morning'
