Baby in garage

DH was out for a walk with the baby, came home and was going to do some work on his bicycle and said he would just take the baby into the garage in his pram. I said I'd rather he just bought him into the house as I wasn't sure the garage was that safe a place for the baby - think stuff up on the roof, tools and car parts everywhere. I was worried something could fall into the pram.

He thinks I'm mental . He brought the baby in to me anyway as he was only trying to give me another half hour to relax really so wasn't a big deal.

So am I being neurotic or is he being lax?

Long as baby is wrapped up I'd have let him get on with it.

Do things normally fall off your garage walls?

Haha I have been known to be but I don't even want to go in there, it just doesn't look safe! I come from a safety background and read accident reports all the time when at work so maybe that changes my perspective

YABU, he would have been fine but I don't think you're being neurotic, just extra careful? Is it your firstborn? By no 2 you will be leaving them anywhere. Factory workshops, the fast lane of a formula one race, fireworks factory, Antarctic station, the works.

It's a tad neurotic. The presence of the baby won't magically make things fall off the wall. However it is a bit chilly for a baby to be out in a cold garage.

Neurotic. Unless your garage is a genuine death trap, in which case you should be worried about your husband or anyone else in there also. I would be concerned about cold and drafts etc for a baby in a garage but much less so about shovels and spanners hopping off the walls into a pram.

Purple it's the stuff stored up on the roof rafter bits that I was worried about.
It most likely would have been fine, I have been very anxious about the baby since he was born. (Almost 6 months ago) I am improving though he's even been left with a Granny for a couple of hours - go me!

You are being a bit U, should have grabbed the baby free time with both hands and left DH to keep an eye on baby. But then if you couldn't relax knowing baby was in the garage maybe best thing was to have him with toy

I think if a baby could be in the warm house surely thats preferable to being in a cold garage in this weather?

If the garage isn't safe for a sleeping baby strapped into a pram then it's probably not safe for adults.

If you don't trust your husband to make reasonable judgements about the safety of the baby (which is his too) you're going to spend their childhood being unnecessarily stressed.

Have you ever had help for anxiety? Many people struggle alone without realising there are ways to cope with it.

Amelia I actually don't think it is safe but I am over anxious about safety so don't trust my judgement I always think I'd rather be safe than sorry.

purple I probably should see someone tbf but we just muddle along. The problem is my mum is also very anxious about safety so she kind of feeds my anxiety and makes me think I'm normal.

It depends what kind of garage you have. If it's like my FIL's where everything has its place and is neatly and securely stored then YABU. If it's like ours which looks like a bomb site and has crap leaning against all the walls and overloaded shelves then YANBU. I feel like I'm taking my life into my hands every time I go in there and it's definitely not a safe place for a baby.

theresabird ours is like yours. Every time we have a clear out we somehow accumulate more crap! My dh hates throwing anything out as 'it could come in handy'

Honestly, living every day feeling anxious is awful and sometimes it goes on for so long you can't imagine not feeling like that any more. It's like a weight that's been lifted when you realise it doesn't have to be like that. Have a chat to your gp and see what they say.

An inquisitive toddler who would be wandering around YANBU but a baby safely wrapped up in a pram yabu.. Enjoy the peace !!

I wouldn't bring a baby in a pram into my garage as it's bloody infested with spiders that like to dive onto your head from the roof, so I don't even go in there if I can help it.

But most garages are probably not full of such dangers.

Thanks purple it was the babies first night in his own room last night and I felt sick all night, have no idea what I thought was going to happen to him in his perfectly safe room!

I was concerned by the title that you either intended to house your baby in the garage or you'd found one in a garage, both of those things are not good, but i think half an hr supervised in garage is completely fine

I think you are being slightly neurotic but I also think you're completely normal. I suspect this is first baby? Wait till you've had a couple more, then you'll be begging dad to take them into the garage! Stop giving yourself a hard time x
