About asthma and fluid on the lungs?

More am I being confused really.

I feel a bit silly for having not absorbed this properly but I was a bit dazed and it was the second ailment dealt with in a 10 minute GP slot, so it was quite rushed.

I think he was saying that fluid on the lungs can be a feature of asthma. I thought I was wheezing my way through the eighth week of a nasty chest infection so his was a change of tack. But I'm not sure if I heard correctly.

Might he have said that? I have made an appt with the asthma nurse for next week. Meanwhile I kee turning it over in my head because it seems surprising to (non medical) me.

And don't tell me to google. I'm uncharacteristically nervous about this.

Ok, so I googled on your behalf to avoid you having to feel alarmed by reading anything scary.
The consensus of various NHS, netdoctor type websites is that yes you can get build up of fluid in the lungs with some types of asthma, sometimes.
Try not to worry until you see the nurse and if your condition changes or worsens then contact your GP.

Yes, your ears are fine it's your chest which is not working properly!!!!
I understand though, it's rush in, rush out and googling is a bad bad bad idea as you immediately think you've got Kawasaki disease or Green Monkey fever and are on your last legs.

I have had fluid on the lung, I also have asthma but it was diagnosed a year later and the two were unconnected. I didn't just have wheezing though, I had severe pains in my left side as well and at one point I thought I had pleurisy.

I had to go into hospital and have it drained, but have had no problems since (this was more than 10 years ago). I have mild asthma now, I use a steroid pump once a day and that is it, I use my Ventolin maybe once a year.

So wrap up as Mrsdraper says and don't worry. Even if you did have fluid, it is not as scary as you think it is - honestly!

Thanks Louise. I'm pretty sure it's not pleurisy. I had that a couple of winters ago and that hurt. This is "just" severe breathlessness and squelching.

It doesn't sound like mine then because it was very much like pleurisy symptoms.
