Living with others in a houseshare. Wrt bills, one person pays rent which we obvs all transfer to them, one does elec/water which is easy as only every three months, one does none (complicated and annoying). I do broadband/phone and council tax, which is a pain as one is a DD and the other involves me asking everyone each month, remembering to do it by x date then a sizeable amount coming out of my account.

I provisionally agreed to do it for 6 months as that's how long our first bill was for. Would it be bad to hand over to someone for the next 6 months? I have a feeling everyone just thinks I will/should pay it from now on, but I feel like I've been lumped with 2 bills and someone else should share the responsibility now! Or am I being petty??

When i house shared there was 3 of us. We set up a joint bank account . Calculated the bills always adding a bit extra then split it by 1/3 and paid into bank account. All bills were paid by direct debit so we all dealt equally with it. Worked well.

I agree with the joint account.
But if not, you shouldn't be chasing money for fixed costs.
Set your bill payment to go out on 3rd, direct debit. Tell everyone else to set up their share as a standing order to you on 1st.
As you have Council Tax, make sure it's paid over 12 months not 10 - a phone call will sort that.

If you set all your bills to the same day and then just set up a regular transfer from your accounts the day/a few days before?

Don't get a joint account. If any of the other account holders has financial difficulties or is generally crap with money, your credit rating will be ruined for years.

Get them to all set up direct debits to you so you have the money in advance.
If the amount changes but is roughly the same each six months, get an agreed amount DD from them and refund everyone the few pounds difference afterwards.

Why doesn't the one who does none take one of your bills? That would be fair as you would each have a responsibility for joint finances.
